Spotlight: The Canyon Lake Golf Club A Full Service Club
                                                                Open to the Public

Canyon Lake Golf Club logoWith spring fast approaching. it's time to get your golf clubs out of the garage and out on the fairway!

In Canyon lake, minutes from Las Brisas and First Mountain, on the south side of the lake, is the wonderful Canyon Lake Golf Club, a par-72 golf course that is open to the public.  The course boasts well-manicured fairways accented with rolling hills, live oak trees, and a lovely view of the lake. Several holes have been completely redesigned to challenge even the most avid golfer. New cart paths allow a smooth flow of traffic, while also preserving the fairway

First Mountain on Canyon Lake

"In the back of our minds we always knew we wanted to retire in the Hill Country" ---
                 Cindy and John Gower

John and Cindy Gower have lived all over the world.  John's career in the oil and gas business has taken his family from Houston to Peru to California to Ecuador and finally to Midland, Texas, where he and Cindy currently reside.  And yet, despite his world travels, he and his wife have always wanted to retire to the Texas Hill Country.

Their love of the hills, central Texas' music scene and living by the water spurred them to search for the perfect retirement location in the Texas Hill Country.  First they looked at Austin, then New Braunfels, and finally decided on Canyon Lake.  The proximity of Canyon Lake to Austin, San Antonio and Houston (they have a son and daughter-in-law living there), combined with their love of water skiing and boating, made the decision to build in Canyon Lake the perfect choice.

But where to live in Canyon Lake? After several trips to the area, they finally drove up Triple Peak Road to First Mountain. There the Gowers knew they had found the ideal location to build their retirement home.  Even though First Mountain was in the predevelopment phase, they had no doubt that it would be a first class development.  They had visited Las Brisas, a sister development, and had been impressed with the entry, roads, homes, and underground utilities.

First Mountain's Secluded Location and Great Views

According to John, "First Mountain is far enough away from major roads to provide the peacefulness and serenity that Cindy and I want, and with the elevated views of the lake and hills, we know we will be happy living there."

Very soon, John and Cindy Gower will be breaking ground on their retirement home at First Mountain.  In a few years they hope to call First Mountain home, but until then they plan to use their lake home as often as possible -enjoying boating, attending nearby live music concerts, and of course, soaking in the wonderful laidback lifestyle the Hill Country offers.

Bluebonnet Season Is Fast Approaching!

Watch for Bluebonnets Mid-March through May

For Texans, bluebonnets are a sure sign that spring has arrived, and for many, it is the undeniable proof of God's partiality to the great state of Texas.  The historian, Jack McGuire, quite accurately captured the importance of the wildflower to state of Texas with the following analogy:  "The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland."

According to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, bluebonnets are beginning to crop up, but blooms have not yet been sighted.  This year is expected to be a good year for wildflowers, but more rain would make it a great year.

To get your jump on viewing the prized Lupinus texensis, listed below are links to websites and phone numbers.
