Greetings!

Happy New Year!
2008 was pretty stressful for a lot of us and most of us are ready to envision a more positive future for ourselves. Instead of focusing on what's not going right, I would like to encourage you to focus on the positive in your life. Try out the Gratitude Journal and read the article Eat Less and Play More to get some ideas on bringing more of the good stuff into your life this year.
I will be teaching a Shiatsu Massage Workshop on Sunday January 25. The workshop will be held at Black Lotus Yoga which is a beautiful yoga studio near Central Square. This will be a fun and interactive hands-on workshop open to all levels. Sign up now to get the special $40 price!
Wishing you a New Year filled with abundance, love, happiness and good food.

Gratitude Journal
Sometimes we forget about all the good things happening in our lives and get a little too focused on negative and scarcity thinking. I've found that by turning our thinking around to what is good, positive and abundant in our lives, we are better able to manifest more of this energy in our lives.
A gratitude journal is a simple way to focus on what's going well in our life. Each morning* when you wake up, write down 10 things that you are grateful for from the day before. They can be small simple things or big things. You can repeat yourself as many times as you like. Sometimes it's hard to think of 10 things! By doing this exercise every day you will naturally start remembering and focusing on what's positive in your life - and voila, you will attract even more positivity!
*You can also do this exercise before going to bed at night.

Eat Less Play More
Remember
when you were a child and you got so wrapped up in playing, imagining
or creating that you didn't want to stop when it was time to eat?
Do you remember leaving your meal half-finished to run off and
continue playing? Children innately understand that food is secondary
to what is most nutritious and primary in life: fun and play.
As
adults we seem to have lost our instinct to prioritize play. In our
busy world, with its emphasis on work and responsibility, to be
healthy and balanced we must work on more than just our bodies; we
must feed our hearts, minds and spirits.
Have
you noticed that when your body, mind and spirit are engaged in a
creative project or happy relationship, your reliance on food seems
to decrease? Likewise, when you are unsatisfied with your
relationships, your job or other areas of your life, you may depend
on food to cheer, soothe or numb you. When your life is out of
balance, no amount of food can feed you where you truly need
nourishment. The food that we eat is very important for health and
balance, but what really feeds us - a full and fulfilling
life - doesn't come on a plate.
What
is fun for you? What makes you light up? What excites you? Make time
for it this week. Even if you don't have much time for fun, try
approaching a "serious" activity with an attitude of play. This
can greatly reduce stress and anxiety and bring more pleasure to your
day. Take your focus off food, try adding more fun into your life and
watch the magic unfold.

Carrot Soup with Orange and Tarragon
I made this soup for a holiday party and it was not only really easy to make but also delicious!
Ingredients: 1 tblsp butter 1 1-pound bag classic-cut peeled carrots 3/4 cup chopped onion 3 cups low-salt vegetable or chicken broth 1/2 cup orange juice 1 tablespoon brandy 2 teaspoons chopped fresh tarragon Fresh tarragon sprigs
Melt butter in heavy large pot over medium heat. Add carrots and onion; saute until onion is soft, about 8 minutes. Add broth; cover and bring to boil. Reduce heat, uncover, and simmer until carrots are tender, about 10 minutes.
Working batches, puree soup in blender until very smooth. Return soup to pot. Stir in orange juice, brandy, and chopped tarragon. Simmer 5 minutes for flavors to blend. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Garnish soup with tarragon sprigs and serve.
