Honoring Physicians on National Doctors Day
Doctors Day Design
Doctors preserve health and life every day, tirelessly contribute towards advancing medical knowledge, and dedicate hours to promoting good health. At the bedside, in surgery, treating emergency or urgent care patients, delivering babies, reading x-rays or lab tests, they deliver compassionate care to our community.

In honor of National Doctors Day on March 30, the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation invites the community to express special appreciation to their physician(s) by making a contribution to benefit patient care services at Henry Mayo Hospital.

Each physician honored will receive a letter from the Foundation acknowledging that a donation was received in his or her honor. Donations are confidential and no reference is made to the amount of the donor's gift. A special recognition poster acknowledging the physicians who have been honored will be on display at the Doctors Day luncheon. Contributions must be received prior to March 18 to be included on the display.

If you would like to recognize your physician with a special online contribution, visit or call the Foundation office at (661) 200-1201 or click here.

Shelley Hann, community volunteer and philanthropist, will dance for Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation at the third annual SCV Dancing with Our Stars on April 2 at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills.

Hann will host three events prior to the main event on April 2 to help her reach her fundraising goal:

1) Superbowl party for a $50 per person donation,

2) Sweetheart Valentine's Day dinner party for a $125 per person donation,

3) A $10,000 opportunity drawing for $50 donation per ticket.

All donations will equate to "votes" for Shelley and will benefit Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. To RSVP for any of the events or to purchase an opportunity drawing ticket, call the Foundation office at (661) 200-1200. To read more, click here.

Storybook Evening Promised for Grand Ball

A magical night awaits guests at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild's 26th Annual Silver Rose Debutante Grand Ball on Saturday, March 5 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.

According to Guild president Tamra Levine, the Grand Ball, which is open to the community, is an event not to be missed. In addition to the waltz, the Grand Ball includes a lavish, three-course dinner and the opportunity to interact with distinguished members of the Santa Clarita Valley. After dinner, guests can hit the dance floor to enjoy music from a disc jockey and live band.

Tickets for the Grand Ball are $150 and benefit laboratory services at Henry Mayo. For more information or to purchase tickets for the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild's 26th Annual Silver Rose Debutante Grand Ball, please call (661) 253-8051 or click here.

Meet Mitzi Like

The reason Mitzi Like joined the Henry Mayo Health Foundation Board of Directors was simple.  "We only have one hospital and I wanted to help," she said. "There are a lot of worthy non-profits out there, but everyone at some point is going to need a hospital."

Like, President and CEO of L/B/W Insurance & Financial Services, Inc., the largest independent multi-line insurance agency in the Santa Clarita Valley, joined the Foundation board in 2008 and became the Vice Chair of Major Gifts in September 2009.

Despite a tough economy, the Foundation has managed to secure several major philanthropic gifts during Like's tenure, much to her delight. "We've had a good run. I didn't raise it myself, but I like to call myself the lucky charm," Like said.

She will also join a major gifts committee being organized by the Foundation this year and encourages other local business people to get involved. "We're going to continue to raise money to put through the plans the hospital has in place," Like said. "This is a very worthy cause, as it touches the people on the board, their families, and their friends."

A Valencia resident for the past 30 years, Like plans on becoming more involved with Henry Mayo's cardiac unit in the near future. "My husband has been in there a few times," she said. "It's not just him, but our entire community that is getting older. We need to get the cardiac unit in place so people don't have to travel outside our valley for cardiac care."

A mother and grandmother, Like enjoys spending time with her family. Avid golfers and skiers, Like and her husband, Randy, head to the slopes of Park City, Colorado, or Lake Tahoe in the winter, or to golf courses in Palm Desert, whenever possible.
