MASTER PLAN UPDATE
Master Plan Map
We've entered the home stretch on the long-anticipated City Council Vote on our Master Plan. The next critical meeting is a Special City Council hearing on November 19. It is our hope that the Council will bring our proposal to a vote that evening.

The centerpiece to the Master Plan is a much-needed expansion of the 33-year old hospital through the construction of a new five-story patient wing and the addition of up to 120 beds. Among the features being planned are new operating rooms, new private rooms for maternity patients and the development of "Centers of Excellence" in important clinical areas.  The Master Plan also includes the re-establishment of a heliport, which is required for the hospital to remain a designated trauma center - the only one in the Santa Clarita Valley and serving a 680-square-mile area that includes a long stretch of I-5.

We urge you to attend on November 19 at 6 p.m. to show your support and to help urge the Council to vote "yes". Your voice really does matter. Visit www.SCVBetterHealth.com today for more info.

Liker & Esteban Named "Healthcare Heroes"
Liker Healthcare HeroCongratulations to the latest heroes at Henry Mayo! Tax Tip for 2008
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital continues to thrive thanks to the generosity of our community whose charitable gifts help to ensure our future.  Therefore, we are pleased to provide you with important information that may impact your charitable contributions for 2008.

When President Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, he also extended the IRA Charitable Rollover. The provision will be made retroactive to January 1, 2008, and will apply to gifts made from that date through December 31, 2009.

Essentially, this Act enables you to make a tax-free withdrawal from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) for the current 2008 year, and for 2009 as well, and transfer ("roll over") the funds to a charitable organization.

The following limitations apply:
  • The cap on annual IRA rollovers is $100,000.
  • The contribution must be a direct gift to a charity (no planned gifts).
  • The donor must be age 70 or older.
To find out more about the IRA Charitable Rollover and how you or your loved ones could benefit, call Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation at 661-253-8082 or send an e-mail message to vosedb@henrymayo.com
