Dear Families,

As school winds down and temperatures heat up, June provides an introduction to the true Yuma experience: summer in the desert.  To new Yuma residents, this month begins a certain rite of passage that seasoned Yumans wear as a badge of honor. After all, when discussing the weather, all conversations involve the fundamental question, "have you been through a Yuma summer yet?" This dialogue typically evolves in one of two directions, either, "it's not as bad as it seems" (also known as the "dry heat" argument) OR "prepare for center-of-the-sun heat whiplash" (also known as the "hot-is-hot, dry or not" argument).

Regardless of your approach to summer heat, June gives us a chance to spend time with family through vacation time and Father's Day. With kids out of school, this month means melting popsicles, well-worn flip flops, and the perfect tie for dad.

Marine Corps Family Team Building wants to help you preserve those precious family memories of summertime, and we are offering a Photography and Photo Sharing class on June 2 (9:00am-12:00pm). In this class, you will learn to take the best pictures with your camera and also share them with extended friends and family. Call 269-6547 to register.

As you pack your bags for summer trips or even time by the pool, remember that Marine Corps Family Team Building is here to help you do better than just survive the heat this summer. Through our ever-growing classes and programs, we work to help you bloom, even in the "dry" heat of Yuma.

Your MCFTB Team,                   Kate, Bekah, Brooke, Bree & Sarah

Summer Escapesroadtrip

Summer has arrived in its typical, blazing fashion with triple-digit temperatures. Does the sizzling summer chase you indoors, or have you found a great summer escape? One favorite of Marine Corps Family Team Building is Julian, California. A two-hour drive along I-8, the historic gold mining town boasts an elevation of 4,235 feet and summer temps peaking in the low 80's. With fantastic campsites and hiking for all levels, it's an inexpensive getaway the entire family can enjoy, including the furry four-legged ones.

Not sure where to vacation this summer? Visit Information Tickets and Tours (ITT) in the new Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) for great discounted ideas. Also check out the Armed Forces Vacation Club (www.afvclub.com) and the Space A travel website (www.spacea.info) for your next family adventure.

What is your favorite summer destination within a one-day drive of Yuma? Share your family's best summer escape photo and story in less than 250 words. We will select the best and publish them in the July issue of Bloom, circulated to over 1000 military families! Email us by 25 June.

stephGLOW Rocked!!
Thank you to all that attending GLOW on May 7th.  The event was a smashing success thanks to the over 200 spouses that came out.  While Mollie Gross was hilarious, didn't you think Stephanie, the "Keytar Girl", was equally comical?  For those that missed it, one of our very own Yuma spouses sang an original song that told her hilarious experiences of being a military spouse.  This talented MAWTS-1 Spouse is also one of our very special L.I.N.K.S. mentors.  We promise you won't be bored when Stephanie teaches you the ins and outs of an LES statement...through song.

So relive the Keytar Girl experience or see her for the first time at the next L.I.N.K.S. class.  You'll laugh, you'll cry.. You'll LOVE L.I.N.K.S.!!
Happy Father's Day!dad
My husband, and father of our children, is GREAT!!!! Though he is deployed, he has made this deployment so easy for us. Since he has been gone, he has made an effort to "eat dinner" with us as often as he can. At dinner, we set up the web cam at our table. He has his food ready where he is and we sit and have dinner as a family. This allows us to bring the family together and have dinnertime family conversations. My husband makes life so great for us; he shows us how much he cares about each and every one of us!! Having seven children, being able to juggle his career and make us all happy is wonderful!!! All of us here at the Zuniga residence are proud to say that our hero/father/husband is a United States Marine!!!!
