Dear Families,
The month of May reminds us to appreciate those who have influenced and shaped us the most. It is home to both Mother's Day (May 9th) and Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 8th). Both days recognize individuals who have modeled resilience under the toughest of circumstances and oftentimes put the needs of their children and/or Marine ahead of their own.
A life of sacrifice for the cause of the Corps or the success of their children instills a definite pride in the job of spouse and/or mother. A Chinese proverb describes it this way, "There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it." Isn't that true? Of course, every mother thinks they have the best kid(s) in the world, just like Marine spouses believe they have the best partners in the world. The most obvious proclamations of this pride are often on hilarious bumper stickers, like these ones.
If you love a Marine, raise your glass. If not, raise your standard.
Be jealous, my Marine is better than your civilian
Why play with Ken when you can have G.I. Joe?
To all of the men and women who will be filling the role of mom or Marine spouse in May, thank you for all you do. To show our appreciation, MCFTB is hosting GLOW on May 7th 6:00-9:30pm, a night out for military spouses. Join us at the Sonoran Pueblo for a free wine tasting, dessert bar, raffle prizes, and comedy show by military spouse comedienne Mollie Gross. We hope to see you at this fun night!

7 Habits of Highly Effective Military Families
"Most people get married believing a myth - that marriage is a beautiful box full of all the things they have longed for: companionship, sexual fulfillment, intimacy, friendship.
The truth is that marriage, at the start, is an empty box. You must put something in before you can take anything out.
There is no love in marriage; love is in people, and people put it into marriage.
There is no romance in marriage; people have to infuse it into their marriages.
A couple must learn the art and form the habit of giving, loving, serving, praising - keeping the box full. If you take out more than you put in, the box will be empty."
-"A Marriage Myth" by J. Allen Petersen from 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families
The "7 Habits of Highly Effective Families" is a two-day workshop designed empower participants with the knowledge and tools to enrich and strengthen their relationships. Deadline to register: Friday, May 7th.
