Dear Families,
Spring is upon us.  This time of year is a popular gardening season, a time to pot flowers and plant seeds. It is a season where you invest something small, like a seed, to reap the benefits of beautiful flowers or bountiful produce. Now, some of us may have a knack for cultivating greenery in this desert climate, but for others of us, keeping a house plant alive can be the ultimate challenge.  Whether or not have a green thumb, this season can be a time where you invest in people or activities that will help you grow as a person. Marine Corps Family Team Building encourages our families to "Bloom Where You Are Planted". We are committed to providing you with classes and events that will help you continue to grow and flourish in the midst of your military lifestyle.

This month, we have several exciting classes that will develop skills to help you "bloom" this spring. Does speaking in front of an audience make your knees knock and your heart race? If so, it's time to conquer your fear! Come check out the Toastmasters demonstrations this month, and observe an internationally renowned club that builds confidence and leadership skills. Members write and give speeches, receive and offer constructive evaluations, earn accolades, learn to conduct meetings, and improve listening, planning and motivational skills. Spouses, military members and DoD employees are welcome! Two sessions are available: April 13 from 6:00pm-7:00pm or April 16th from 11:30am-12:30pm.  Call to sign up!

As you invest in new things this spring, whether in your garden or in your life, Marine Corps Family Team Building is here to help you thrive in the military lifestyle. As William Shakespeare so eloquently said, "April hath put a spirit of youth in everything." We hope you are revitalized by the newness of spring this month!

Volunteer Appreciation Month  volunteers

When you work with a paid staff, you are truly lucky to have people who love their job and coming to work every day.  I must say I have the best of both worlds working with my volunteers and the staff at Marine Corps Family Team Building.  They are all phenomenal people with true hearts for the Marines and their families.

I have ten years of experience working in the nonprofit sector and have spent many, many hours with volunteers.  Ahhhh yes, the  volunteers....I can honestly say that MCAS Yuma and the L.I.N.K.S. program have produced some of the most remarkable volunteers I have had the privilege to work with.  These men and women give only of themselves.  Their sole job is to share information about life in the Marine Corps through the L.I.N.K.S. program, but they do so much more.  They invest literally hours meeting, organizing, updating, practicing, mentoring, assembling and presenting.

Our L.I.N.K.S. volunteers are a group of people with crazy personalities, full lives, wicked senses of humor, huge hearts and impeccable passion.  They were some of the first people I met here in Yuma and have become endearing friends.  I wanted to take a public moment to thank you all for your dependability, commitment, flexibility, ideas, support and friendship.  MCAS Yuma's L.I.N.K.S. program is a direct reflection of you all, and I'm proud of what it has become.  I'm also excited to see what else we are capable of bringing to our program.

My sincerest and heartfelt thanks,                                                        Brooke, L.I.N.K.S. Trainer
