Bridge and River

Gliding into Autumn

Our Autum Specials are constantly changing, as is the weather. The days are warm and the nights will soon turn crisp as  our verdant New England lanscape gently moves into a fall wardrobe of vibrant yellow, orange and red. We were spared the worst of this years violent weather and anticipate a season of lovely folliage. We are sorry to report that some of our guests have not been as fortunate and have needed to cancel travel due to fires in the West and floods in the South and Central States. Our prayers go with them for a quick recovery. We will be posting Last-Minute Bargains to fill these openings. Come and visit our historic town, pick a fresh apple and see the geese moving over the pumpkins in the fields.
 JQAdams

One Day with Three Presidents:  Adams Homestead and John F. Kennedy Library.

The birthplace of our Nation's second President, John Adams, and sixth President, John Quincy Adams, can be found in Quincy Massachusetts, just 45 minutes from the Inn. The two-hour trolly and home tour, offered by the National Park Service , takes in both birth homes, as well as John Adam's more grand residence, "Peace Field". Close by you may also visit the final resting place of both Presidents and First Ladies. Before heading back to Concord, enjoy a waterfront lunch at Marina Bay and then stop by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and MUseum for a tour of fascinating permenant and special exhibits.
 Garden BountyPreserving the Bounty
Marilyn has an organic garden-plot that has far exceeded all expectations for abundance. We are loathe to imagine preparing an omelette without the complexity of garden herbs once the season passes. Thus we have been preparing mixtures of herb butters.
To preserve and prepare your herbs for future use: Chop them very fine and gently saute in one pound of butter. Once the flavor is extracted allow the mixture to slowly cool. Stir the mixture so that the butter does not seperate and the herbs sink to the bottom. While the mixture is still plastic, spoon it into ice cube trays and freeze. When you need some quick flavor in your cooking, pop an herb butter cube from the freezer!
books Concord Festival of Authors

The Concord Festival of Authors will open on October 20th, with a talk by Randall Kennedy, author of The Persistence of the Color Line: Racial Politics and the Obama Presidency.  PashkaPashka Up-Date
Our newest puppy, Pashka ("Paw" in Slovak), is now seven- months old. He is a very gentle boy who loves all of our guests. Pashka became best friends with little Nimay during his three-week visit with his parents to the Hawthorne Inn. Nimay had never known a dog before, nor Pashka a cute little boy. The mutual discovery and enjoyment was a wonder to behold. Nimay's parents report that he now calls every dog he meets Pashka.  quiltCalling All Ties
Pictured is a small portion of a grand black-and-white quilt  that was recently completed by our Innkeeper. It is an eye-dazzling work of art. One of Marilyn's next projects is to make a quilt from neck-ties, of varied color and patterns.  If you are coming to visit the Inn and have any old ties to donate to this project we would be most grateful. Any and all are welcome. We will post the final results.
