Silly Video

Why do talking animals  make us laugh? This video is a lot of fun. Enjoy!

The Art of Edward Gorey

The Puppy Has Arrived

After a long flight from Kalamazoo, via Chicago, our new German Shepherd puppy has arrived at his new home in Concord. We are indebted to Mondoucu Kennels for raising such beautiful dogs. Thank you, one and all, for your creative name suggestions. We received over 150 ideas! They ran the gammut: Sparky, Nathaniel Pawthorne, Walden, Souza... and so many others. The winner is "Pashka",  a phonetic spelling from Slovak for Paw. Pashka is looking forward to exploring the wonders of Concord, the spirit of Walden Pond and the calming and welcoming essence of the Hawthorne Inn. We are excited for the opportunity to introduce you to Pashka on your next visit with us. Come soon.

Auction Benefits Thoreau Society & Thoreau Farm Trust

We have donated a Night at the Hawthorne Inn to benefit these two worthy organizations: The Thoreau Society, the oldest and largest organization devoted to an American author, and the Thoreau Farm Trust, steward of the recently restored Henry David Thoreau birthplace. Proceeds from the auction will support the respective missions of both nonprofit organizations. Auction ends March 18th.    Check-out all of the wonderful offerings.

Little Known Fact

The Thoreau birthplace was built by the Innkeeper's (Gregory Burch) ancestors: Sergeant Thomas Wheeler, 1620-1704, and his son Deacon John Wheeler, 1655-1736. The Wheelers were original settlers of Concord.
