Walden Water
Hawthorne Inn winter
Shipping a single bottle of Perrier consumes 2 ounces of oil. About 2 billion pounds of un-recycled plastic bottles go into landfills annually. In our continued efforts to "Go Green" the Hawthorne Inn provides our guests with  Walden Woods Aquifier water in re-usable glass bottles. Refreshing and environmentally friendly.
 Arboretum Trees in bloomFeatured Day-Trip
Only 30 minutes from the Hawthorne Inn you can explore the spectacular beauty of the Arnold Arboretum . Maintained by Harvard University it is the oldest public arboretum in North America and one of the world's leading centers for the study of plants and trees. The Arnold Arboretum is a key link in the Emerald Necklace, a 7-mile-long network of parks and parkways that civic visionary Frederick Law Olmsted laid out for the Boston Parks Department between 1878 and 1896. Enjoy a stroll among flower rimmed ponds, exotic bushes and bonsai and then picnic under towering 100 year old specimen trees. See our
Innkeeper's Journal  for more garden excursion ideas.

carpenter ant Household Hint- Carpenter Ants
The ants are called "carpenter ants" not because they build from wood, but because of the material called "frass" that they leave behind as they destroy wood.
Carpenter ants can cause damage to your home. To the untrained eye they may be confused with termites.
