New Elementary School Teachers Join TIRS

We have several new teachers this year and we are very excited to welcome them. Morah Michelle is teaching Grade 4. Morah Irena is teaching Grade 6. Morah Alexa is our supply teacher. Morah Sheryl is teaching Grade 5 this year on Sunday. Alina Gruder has joined our staff. She is a remedial reading teacher, working with students on an individual basis. We welcome all of our new staff members this year and are excited to have them in the TIRS family.

TIRS Welcomes New High School Teachers

We are proud to introduce Michelle and Micah as new teaching members of our TIRS high school team.  Michelle is teaching the grade 7 and Micah is teaching a combined grade 8/9.  The students have been welcoming and have given positive feedback about their new teachers.  Both Michelle and Micah come to us with a wealth of experience to share as well as a genuine desire to be part of our education team here at TIRS.  Be sure to introduce yourselves to them in the near future.

Shalom

Shalom,

Another year at TIRS has started with excitement and enthusiasm.

We are blessed with a school enrollment that is stable.  We have replaced long serving teachers with wonderfully warm, caring and committed individuals.

We have refined our curriculum to be precise and clear with all of our teachers about expectations and goals.

We have only one aspect of the school which is not in our hands:  your support!

We can be the most effective partnership in creating a positive experience for your child if:

-Children arrive on time

-Attend on a regular basis

-Participate in our activities with full parental support

-Wear their TIRS T-shirt to classes.  We will be creating new ones this year, but until then wearing the blue t-shirt creates esprit de corps and community.

Penny, Dina and I look forward to creating a partnership with you that will be beneficial to your child and their ongoing Jewish education.

We wish you all Shana Tova and G'mar Chatima Tova,

Rabbi Steve Garten

TIRS Elementary School Learning

Our school year began on a lovely September Sunday with a barbeque provided by our Parent Committee. This was a great way for students and parents to re-connect and for our new students and parents to meet our staff.

We have a new club at recess this year. Students can learn how to knit, crochet or do friendship bracelets at the "Golden Hands" club. In preparation for Rosh Hashannah, we learned about making a shofar from Rabbi Blum.

Shana Tova!

Morah Penny

TIRS students were able to meet and participate in an interactive shofar workshop with Rabbi Blum. Students learned about Rosh Hashanah as they filed, drilled, and varnished their own shoforot to take home.

TIRS High School Learning

TIRS high school is off to a great start this 2011/2012 school year.  New staff, new format for the grade ten and some new curriculum.  The principal, supervisor and teachers have been working together to create an engaging and meaningful program for the grade 7, 8, 9 and 10 students that join us on Monday evenings.  We are still accepting students if there are more out there who wish to join us.

We end this month with a new beginning with Rosh Hashanah.  The students greatly enjoyed making their very own shofarot with Rabbi Blum.  What a neat experience.

The grade 7s and their parents had their B'nai Mitzvah meeting and are now truly embarking on a new journey.  Each student will learn a great deal about themselves this year and I look forward to sharing in that process.

Grade 10s Start Year with Shabbaton

The Grade 10 class enjoyed a Shabbat overnight to start off their Confirmation year.  The students, accompanied by Annette and Sheldon Paquin, shared a Shabbat dinner, Kabbalat Shabbat service with personal readings, programs about God and Torah and even got in some boating.  The students were engaged and eager participants and we look forward to the new Grade 10 program which takes them into the Temple and general community for many different kinds of learning experiences.
