Noah's Ark: The Untold Story
What happens when you combine Jewish education with the amazing creativity of our students at Temple Israel? A retelling of Noah's Ark, like you've never seen it before. This performance is inspired by ideas contributed by students and directed by Grade 1 teacher, Bronwyn Steinberg. Come join the end of the year festivities and be the audience of the play on the last day of Sunday school, May 29th. We ask all attending to arrive for 11:30 so that the play can begin by 11:45.

A Thank you to our Staff
To all the teachers at TIRS, I wish you a safe and relaxing summer. I think that the secret is out... TIRS is fun! It is all of you that make it that way. So thank you for all of your efforts this year. Thank you for all the energy and love you have poured into our students. Thank you for working as such a cohesive team. I know that I speak for the parents and the Rabbi when I say that we appreciate your efforts. Thanks to Melanie and "Mrs. G." in the office who greet each request with a smile and efficiency. Thank you to Larry who "glues" this school together with beautiful music and the utmost flexibility. Our school has a wonderful reputation as a positive and vibrant place of learning.

TIRS High School Learning
Another year is coming to a close at TIRS. To teachers, Teaching Assistants, volunteers, office staff, Temple staff, and parents, Yesher Koach. Through your hard work and dedication, over 100 Jewish students have learned about being Jewish this year. A special thanks to all who have served on the school committee and our supervisors who have laboured diligently to make Jewish learning a meaningful experience. There have been many outstanding experiences this year; Guest speakers, Tzedakah campaigns, holiday celebrations, art projects, and classroom activities. We are already in discussion about how to make the High School more participatory and involving without losing the learning. We continue to discuss how to expand our tutorial programmes on Wednesday and Sunday. We will search for better ways to integrate Hebrew into Sunday and Jewish learning into Wednesday. We have identified parent/student learning programmes as a priority for next school year. If you have constructive suggestions as to how we can move from strength to strength, don't hesitate to contact Penny, Dina or me. I hope that I will see many of you on Sunday May 29th, at 11:45 when we celebrate the end of school with a wonderful production directed by Bronwyn Steinberg, our resident professional theatrical director. Have a great summer! Hope to see you in Temple on any Shabbat before our opening sessions on September 11, 12, and 14, 2011.

Farewell to Jenny

It is with mixed emotions that we say good-bye to Jenny Tarof at the end of this school year. I remember you as an enthusiastic T.A. on my first day at Temple School, nearly seven years ago.
I had never seen anyone sing with such love and gusto! Over the years, you have transferred those feelings to many, many students at all grade levels. The "Classroom" and "Tree" song will not be the same without those "Jenny" actions! You have grown into an innovative teacher and a valuable member of the TIRS team. All of our former and present students will miss you. Good luck with your journey to Newfoundland and your Masters studies. We look forward to your visits home from the Rock.
