Is your WinCable backup working?

Are you sure?  When was the last time you restored from an automatic backup and verified the results?  If the answer to this question is anything more than 'one month ago' it's time to check it again, now and add 'restore' to your list of monthly data verifications.

Where there is no backup, there is no opportunity for recovery.  While WinCable and SuperController can be configured to back up your database locally, that backup is only as good as the location it resides at. For this reason, GLDS strongly recommends storing backups off-site.

Just this month, we heard from an operator whose hard drive crashed.  The operator hadn't taken a recent backup and the most current backup they had was also sitting on the failed drive.  While they were able to find a backup from several months ago, the operator was left trying to retrace their steps.  Don't let this happen to you!

You never know when you'll experience a flood, earthquake or, a fire. Offsite backups distribute the risk and get you back up and running should disaster strike.  There are several ways to get your backups off site -- tape, DVD, flash-drive and even online storage. Regardless of the method you use, it's important to make it part of your daily routine.

Please check to make sure you've got last night's backup, now!

GLDS Users' Conference May 9-12, 2011

Preparations are underway for the 15th annual GLDS Users' Conference.  The 2011 event will be held May 9th through 12th where we'll host WinCable users from around the world at our headquarters in beautiful Carlsbad, California.

Attendees will hear about industry trends, gain insight from operator case studies/panels, learn about new features added in the last year and provide input on how to improve WinCable as we look at the next year.UG Sheraton Sunset

Those who have attended in the past know they are in for three days of well-balanced sessions, sun and fun. Look for registration forms early in 2011 and take advantage of early bird registration incentives.

Plan on attending and have an idea for a session?  Have you seen success in 2010 that other WinCable users need to hear about?  If so, let us know and we just might incorporate it into the event.

Got time to check the time?

As Daylight Savings Time has recently ended for a majority of our US customers, a review of the time settings on workstations and servers is in order.  Those systems on a network will need to have the time settings of workstations and servers in sync.  Microsoft has a built in function 'NET TIME' to handle network time configuration.   More information on setting the time of workstations to match one server on your network can be found at:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314090

For those systems where servers and/or workstations have adequate internet access, the time can be synchronized to the Windows Time Server.  For more information:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307897/EN-US/

Time synchronization is important for licensing purposes in addition to pay per view and event logging utilization.
