GLDS Goes Green

Solar 1What's high-tech, low-cost, and green all over?  That would be the new solar installation at GLDS in Carlsbad, California.  The rooftop photovoltaic system includes as many new generation solar panels as the building could accommodate - and will result in savings of more than 50% of total electric consumption.

The solar system, designed and installed by Sullivan Solar Power in San Diego, received final inspection and "go live" approval during June 2009.  The system consists of 144 Sharp solar modules and 5 inverters, tied to the electric grid and net-metered.  Excess energy generated is credited to annual electric invoices, ensuring maximum return on investment, regardless of weather or usage.

Solar 3Already housed in an energy-efficient building, GLDS made a commitment to take energy conservation to the next level by going solar.  The company installed backup generators and failover systems for mission-critical applications as part of their initial purchase and construction in 2003;  now the building will actually produce a majority of its own electricity as well.  The Genesis Corporate Center, home to GLDS, also uses recycled water for landscape irrigation.

"We saw this project as an opportunity to reduce our energy consumption, save money long-term, and do something responsible for the environment," according to Lon Rosado, GLDS founder and president.  The solar investment has a projected payback of six years - but that calculation assumes current utility rates.  If rates continue to go up, the investment will be recouped even sooner.  "This project is the carbon equivalent of taking at least 30 cars off the road," Rosado added.
A Reason For WinCable

GLDS users should periodically review Activate, Inactivate, Change of Service, and Service Call reason codes to ensure accuracy and provide meaningful marketing information from WinCable.  Two of the designed reports used for reporting reason codes are:

Added Packages - subscriber name, address, account number, and phone number with the package that was added or dropped and the reason code for the change.  Selection criteria of franchise, account, include package, add reason, add date, drop reason, and current sub status.  Exportable format.

Completed Work with Packages and Summary - subscriber name, address, phone number, current packages, management area, sales area, and completed work details.  Selection criteria of completed work with sort and two  summaries.  Will show summary by reason code as well as summary by 'your selection' as defined in the report criteria.
