| Holiday Wishes from GLDS |
|
The holiday season brings with it a unique opportunity for all of us to count the blessings of the past year - and we put our families, our employees, and our customers at the top of that list.
All of us at GLDS have worked very hard this year - to create the best solutions and provide the best service we can. Our success is directly tied to our customers and the industry we serve, and we're grateful that you choose to do business with us.
This is a season to remember those less fortunate. Most of us are safely home with family this December, but there are tens of thousands of military families separated from loved ones. Moreover, there are countless others that have no home at all for the holidays. In this spirit, we have again decided to take the money we would have spent on cards and postage and make a donation to one of our favorite organizations - the Salvation Army.
We thank you for your continued loyalty and support - and wish you a wonderful holiday season, and a joyous celebration of life, freedom, and blessings enjoyed. Our hopes are for a new year of peace and prosperity, and we look forward to working with you.

GLDS Rings Up Call Center Partner
|
CallTek
Center International Inc., ("CallTek") today announced that it has entered into an agreement with
Great Lakes Data Systems ("GLDS") to offer call center support to GLDS cable
operators worldwide.
GLDS partnered
with CallTek to complement its industry leading billing, subscriber management,
and provisioning software. Live operator
support services, 24x7 network monitoring, and multilingual end-user technical
support are now available to hundreds of cable operators who use the GLDS
software. CallTek personnel recently
completed training on the WinCableŽ
billing system, in preparation for supporting small and mid-sized cable
operators.
Ken Wang, President
of
CallTek commented, "We
are very pleased to be working side by side with an industry leader like Great
Lakes Data Systems. We have over 300
trained call center personnel to provide cable customers with billing and
technical support. At the same time, our
sales staff can increase revenues for operators, and reduce their expenses. The
combination of GLDS software and CallTek services will help operators to grow
their subscriber base, expand customer service offerings, and reduce total costs
- all critical needs in this economy".

Disaster Strikes. What Next?
|
|
The answer depends entirely on your level of preparedness. Your subscriber information is likely your most valuable asset. Despite this, we FREQUENTLY hear from operators that they aren't backing up WinCable and SuperController. Unfortunately, by the time we hear this it's often because an operator has had an emergency and needs to restore from backup.
Where there is no backup, there is no opportunity for recovery. While WinCable and SuperController can be configured to back up your database locally, that backup is only as good as the location it resides at. For this reason, GLDS strongly recommends storing backups off-site.
Just this month, we heard from an operator whose hard drive crashed. The operator hadn't taken a recent backup and the most current backup they had was also sitting on the failed drive. Forensic recovery efforts (expensive) were able to retrieve a backup from 2005 which leaves the operator trying to retrace their steps for the last three years. Don't let this happen to you!
You never know when you'll experience a flood, earthquake or, a fire. Offsite backups distribute the risk and get you back up and running should disaster strike. There are several ways to get your backups off site -- tape, DVD, flash-drive and even online storage. Regardless of the method you use, it's important to make it part of your daily routine.
Check to make sure you've got last night's backup, now. |
| Now Hiring
|
GLDS is looking for a
few good men (and women). We currently have openings in our Carlsbad, CA office
for account management, technical support, and addressable engineering
personnel. Candidates should have LOTS of experience in the Cable TV
industry, and be expert in the use of GLDS billing and addressable products.
(For the right candidate, we might even create an opening in our Wisconsin
office). The catch? GLDS has a policy of NEVER hiring
current employees from our customers. It's an ethical thing with us. However,
if you know of qualified people who have recently left the employ of a GLDS
customer please let us know! We're always looking for the best people to serve
our software users worldwide. Submit resumes to Garrick@glds.com
