I am fortunate to have the opportunity to discuss spiritual issues with some very bright men on a somewhat regular basis. I'd like to share some of the things I hear when I am with them.
I used to want big, life-changing experiences in meditation, and sometimes I would have them, but then the next day there would be nothing like that. Then someone told me 'the most minute spiritual idea of today is worth a thousand-fold the spiritual epiphany of yesterday.' Even if I have one idea during the day that I am trying to be connected to a power greater than myself, I am in the game.
Like gravity. A little more and we couldn't move, a little less and we'd float away. But it's perfect. It's just right for us. Whatever figured that out has to be smarter than me. So I'll let God take care of the gravity thing and I'll just work on how to get to the gym right now.
Someone came to me saying they needed my help. They said, 'My ducks aren't in a row.' And I said, 'That's because there aren't any ducks and there isn't any row.' Stop trying to control it. Just have the idea of hanging out with God. That's how I go back to sleep if I wake up at four in the morning in a panic--I just hang out with God.
Scientists tell us the universe is infinite. The Veda tells us the universe is consciousness. We must therefore assume that consciousness is infinite. In an infinite system, every point is the center. This means I am the center of an infinite system of consciousness. From this center I can go out in all directions, 360 degrees, an infinite distance. It is a system I can't possibly outgrow.
Living a spiritual life is merely to seek something in life that cannot be touched or seen or heard, something other than the material. It is assuming there is something going on here other than random occurrence, and the idea that my acceptance and exploration of that as a reality makes my world better.
