Each of us has our own reset mood. My wife, Adele, always has reset to happiness. Waking in the morning, the world to her looks fresh and alive and ready to be explored. I, on the other hand, and before I learned to meditate, would reset to darkness and despair and an abiding anger. Waking in the morning, my mind once wondered 'Why bother? It's all hopeless. It's all meaningless. It's all for someone else, but not for me.'
Who do you suppose was the earlier riser?
Why is there such disparity? What is the difference? History, personal mythology, ideas of and actual experiences of abuse, of tragedy, of mistakes made by self and others. All these play a part. But I like to think it has more to do with the personal assignment each of us came into this world with. The Veda would have it that each of us is on a path back to Wholeness, back to the oneness that Is. The Veda would say that as souls moving back into this plane of existence, we sought out exactly these parents to have exactly these experiences which would take us exactly in this direction that wound us up here, exactly where we find ourselves. Reading (or writing) these words. That all of it was pre-planned in some fashion in order that we would be able to learn the lesson carried in the hands of being this person at this time in this situation; learning, in my case, how to reset to something like joy and happiness. Learning how to have a life that feels worth living. Learning how to love and to allow others to love in return. And learning even how to see love in those who are trying their damnedest not to love. This has been and remains my assignment. And I'm grateful to everyone who has helped challenge me to it.
Today I will live as if I chose exactly the life I have, and discover how well I can love it in all its aspects.
