Gifted & Talented Education

The District would like to welcome back Kathy Ingersoll. Kathy will be the Gifted Coordinator for the 2010-11 school year, working with teachers in grade K through 12.  As Gifted Coordinator, Kathy will be coordinating the screening and identification procedures, assisting in the completion of Written Education Plan for identified students, and consulting and collaborating with teachers to provide enrichment ideas and activities to move our students in the 5th quintile forward.

House Bill 282 requires all Ohio school districts to identify students who meet state established criteria for gifted ability in one or more of the following areas: Superior Cognitive Ability, Specific Academic Ability, Creative Thinking Ability, and/or Visual/Performing Arts Ability.  Students who are gifted perform or have the potential to perform at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience or environment.  Teachers or parents who believe a student may be gifted in any or all of the above areas are encouraged to refer the student for screening and identification.

New for 2010-11:
Screening and identification will occur two times in the year;  December and May.

Referrals must be received by November 1st for December screening, and by March 15th for May screening.  Referrals received after the cut-off dates will be carried over to next screening and identification period.  If you suspect a student may be gifted, please complete a referral form available from your building principal and return.
