God . . . is faithful. - 1 Corinthians 1:9
|
Something is missing from the verse above... Do you know what it is? The message is still the same, "God is faithful," but the added information helps complete this wonderful verse.
God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
- 1 Corinthians 1:9 What an awesome verse, huh? God has called us into fellowship with his Son, Jesus!!! When you think of all that God set in place, all that God did in order that we might have fellowship with Jesus... Don't you just stand in awe and worship? God . . . is faithful!!!
Do you remember being taught what a parenthetical element was in school? Well, the Guide for Grammar - Rules for Comma Usage defines it as the following:
Use a comma to set off parenthetical elements, as in "The Founders Bridge, which spans the Connecticut River, is falling down." By "parenthetical element," we mean a part of a sentence that can be removed without changing the essential meaning of that sentence. The parenthetical element is sometimes called "added information."
What would your parenthetical element be for, "God . . . is faithful." The message is the same, but the added information helps complete and personalize this wonderful truth.
God, who has forgiven me of all my sin, is faithful.
God, who has given me eternal life and fellowship with Him, is faithful.
God, who has blessed me with the most wonderful woman in the world, is faithful.
God, who has entrusted me with two beautiful kids that call me Daddy, is faithful.
God, who has given me the privilege to pastor the most amazing fellowship, is faithful.
God, who has seen me through every trial and every tribulation that He has graciously allowed to come my way, ...IS FAITHFUL!!!
You could make a pretty long list filling in the personal parenthetical element, couldn't you?
It's so common to sinful human nature to focus on what we don't have, to get frustrated about what we don't understand, to get angry with God when things don't seem to be going our way. But, maybe we could just stop for a few minutes or so and start thanking the Lord for all that He has done, all that He is doing... and all that He will do.
Maybe that will help us to understand, know, believe and trust that, "God . . . is faithful."
May the Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son, bless you immensely as you fellowship with Him!!!
