Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses exalting the word of God. The word of God that brings life from the dead. The word of God that is perfect, converting the soul. The word of God that stands forever...
The context of the psalm is a man who is deeply troubled by the circumstances of life and is clinging to the word of God as his only hope. He cries out to the Lord in prayer and praise, praising God for His wonderful word but also pleading with God for help. Consider the following...
My soul clings to the dust;
Revive me according to Your word. (vs 25)
My soul melts from heaviness;
Strengthen me according to Your word. (vs 28)
What intensity is found in these verses! What pain! What honesty in crying out to a loving and merciful God! My favorite worship songs are those that seem as though the writer put their private prayer journal to music. An honest, raw, gutsy plea for help to an Almighty God who is mighty to save.
Are you in that place right now? Are you troubled by the circumstances of life? Are the "what if's" a bit overwhelming? May I encourage you to do as the psalmist did? Simply, but passionately, cry out to God and then consider His good and perfect word to you.
I rise before the dawning of the morning,
And cry for help;
I hope in Your word. (vs 147)
Let my cry come before You, O Lord;
Give me understanding according to Your word. (vs 169)
He is so merciful and so loving and so great. He will meet you right where you're at and minister to you according to His word.
This is our desire every time we gather together as Calvary Chapel Saint Cloud, that the Holy Spirit of God would minister to us in such a way that we would leave revived, strengthened, full of hope and understanding - knowing and trusting Jesus Christ according to His word.
