Updated Gratitude, Updated Thoughts
Hi good friend!Karyn Head small

In last month's newsletter, I claimed that I don't make New Year's resolutions anymore.  That's true.  But I have come to a resolution, not in sudden fireworks fashion, but in a simmer of realization that has bubbled to a boil over the past few months.  I've realized I've forgotten to be consciously grateful for daily gifts, from pens to porch chairs, soap to sushi, indoor plumbing to outdoor lights, sunflower seeds to sunsets - so many things, so easy to take for granted.  I can grit my teeth and get my daily tasks done, or I can relax, trust God, and live in the flow of gratitude.  Gratitude flows better than grit.  So that's my resolution:  be grateful every day.

No doubt you noticed that I left out one of the most important gifts (besides Jesus).
Actually I saved it for last.  I'm grateful for family and friends.  I'm grateful for time with grandkids - and time without grandkids!  I'm grateful for you and your love of children and God.  Conference click for previews GIFI'm grateful that you're interested in my thoughts and experiences in that area.

Sometimes my thoughts need to be updated.  That's been the case with Child-Sensitive Teaching, the foundational book for all that I teach about children.  The teaching basics haven't changed, but the challenges parents and teachers face in working with children these days have changed, and it was apparent to me that the book needed to reflect those changes.  I've finally made the revisions, and I'm happy to announce that the new version is ready, completely updated and revised.  That should be good news for all of you who are interested in the book, especially for those of you who use it to train teachers or require/recommend it as a supplemental text in college classrooms.

Child-Sensitive Teaching is still the same solid, basic developmental teaching guide with ideas to help communicate with kids birth through adolescence.  So what exactly has changed in the book?  In the section that deals with developmental stages, I added a whole chapter on 'Tweens (ages 10 to 12), as well as a chapter that picks up on some crucial, current faith development issues that run as a thread through the developmental stages.  I've tried to make sure the research cited is still current and valid, and I've changed the last chapter to address the needs of today's teachers.  I hope you'll give this new version a look.  I think you'll find it a handy, rich resource as you move into the future with kids.

A big "thank-you" to you and to God,
By God's grace, to His glory,

Karyn Signature
