A Word from Karyn

Greetings!
I hope you had a great Independence Day. We celebrated with our grandsons, ages almost-two and just-turned-four. The two-year-old had to go to bed before it was dark enough for fireworks, but for the first time, the four-year-old stayed up to do sparklers then walk to the college campus nearby and see fireworks. His expression of wonder was priceless as he held his first sparkler.
As much time as I spend these days with issues of apologetics and kids in our postmodern culture, I still claim four as my favorite age. I love their eagerness and sense of wonder at all the new things they're discovering. Of course, our almost-two-year-old grandson is pretty awesome, too, as he uses his newfound sentence-building skills to join in the table conversation as if he knew all there is to know about any subject. He reminds me of my first actual teaching experience in a Sunday school class of 18-month-olds, which sprang me into the fascinating world of the preschooler.
The Bible Time curriculum grew out of years and years of my own training and work with preschoolers. If you have used Bible Time, you're aware that it's full of sensory activities, because preschoolers learn by doing. It's thematic, introducing children to God and His love and care through issues that touch them where they live - home, family, and preschool experiences (each lesson is, of course, rooted in a Bible story or biblical concept). Bible Time incorporates music and rhyme, because I learned that if I sang with and to preschoolers, they would immediately prick up their ears and listen. And at the back of each quarter of Bible Time, there are information cards that enable teachers to connect with parents through helpful tips to understand the growth of their young children. [Learn more...]
What you may not know is that as I wrote Bible Time, I made suggestions for each lesson and activity specific enough so that the teacher is receiving valuable training while teaching. In other words, after a quarter or two (although preferably a year), the person teaching will learn how to better communicate with children that age. I continue to get great feedback about Bible Time. Children like it, and teachers enjoy it as well. It's fun - and very affordable.
Whatever preschool curriculum you are preparing to use, I hope your upcoming year is the best one yet. Happy July!
By God's grace, to His glory,
Karyn Henley
