What the Garden Means to Me
Mariellen Mitchell, Member-at-large
The site of the Garden is very peaceful and beautiful.
It was very touching how personal the ceremony was. Elissa spoke of picking up Lucas and the long drive back. She sang songs - nursery rhymes and other songs and spoke to Baby Lucas. You could tell how much she cares for this child and each child. The Knights of Columbus participation adds so much to the ceremony. The colorful uniforms and what they stand for comes across so gallant. The casket is passed from one to another and gives so much honor to the child and the ceremony. Pastor Jerry's words made me smile, all enthusiastic about Baby Lucas going home to heaven and the other baby angels all excited about meeting and playing with Baby Lucas. All the while butterflies are fluttering around the area. I could not help but think of Baby Lucas' mother and all the mothers of the babies buried at the Garden of Innocence. It is so tragic that whatever was going on in their lives, they thought the only answer was something that led to the abandonment of their child. I am so impressed with the founders who thought this through and put this together for all of these babies. It is a labor of love, all the effort that so many people put forth to make this happen. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this organization and attend this heartfelt ceremony.

What the Garden Means to Me
Nance Welles, Poet for Lucas
 | Circle of love for Lucas |
The Garden of Innocence to me is a very special and precious gift. The gift given by caring loving and compassionate people. A gift to a child who would not otherwise been validated. A gift to the people who share in the ceremony. It is also a gift to the families who share the name of their deceased loved one.The gift of a final resting place brings dignity to a short but special life. Thank you to all those that donate their time and energy to this worthy endeavor.

Please join us and bring a friend to our celebration!
