Garden of Innocence Banner
  January 2011
Greetings!

A new year means a celebration of hope and anticipation for a better year than the last.  After nine burials in  2010, and yet no burials since late August, the Board of Garden of Innocence San Diego was feeling very hopeful for 2011.  Now, only days into the new year we have received notice another baby.  And so, we continue our mission to provide dignified burials to babies who die and are abandoned in San Diego County.

We have provided burials for 120 babies over the last eleven and one half years -- all through volunteer labor, services, and donations.   Because the need continues to be greater than we expected our Board is currently evaluating how to ensure our mission can continue for years to come.  Please read  the "Preserving our Mission" article below and help us as you can.

Sincerely,
Georgene Kruzel
President, Garden of Innocence

We were notified on Wed, Jan 5 that the baby we know as "Inez" has been claimed by her family.  Although the County of San Diego had finalized the paperwork certifying her as abandoned (giving Garden of Innocence San Diego responsibility for her burial) we know that returning her to her family is best for all concerned.  Our Jan, 15 service is still scheduled as we have our dear little Nick to send home.

Help Garden of Innocence San Diego Continue

In our October eNewsletter we informed you that we are working with El Camino Cemetery to set fees for the  purchase of more plots and related fees under a pre-need contract/format.  When our burials move outside the "Circle of Love" walkway we will have increased burial costs because our current pre-need discounts will have expired.  Our new cost, which includes plot, service fees and administrative costs are estimated to be $1,080.00 per burial.  This is still significantly under retail cost for plot burial (as the average price of a funeral in the United States is $12-15,000) and we are extremely grateful to El Camino Cemetery for their continued support of our mission.

Is it possible that in 2011 you could make it your mission to  provide $1,080.00 to bury one child?  With the help of friends, family and/or a service organization that you belong to could you raise $3.00 a day for Garden of Innocence San Diego?  If only 314 individuals would take on this mission in 2011 we could pay-off our pre-need contracts with El Camino Cemetery and ensure the mission of Garden of Innocence San Diego for years into the future.

When you donate $1,080.00 you, your family, or your group can submit a name for a baby who will be buried in Garden of Innocence San Diego.  Please think about how you can help or   Donate Now
