Design Summer Series

For three evenings this summer, Entrez! Open House will be hosting Alessi, then Kartell and finally iittala dedicated ambassadors so you finally have a chance to discover more about these 3 fascinating design companies.

After a short introduction about the companies they work for, our guest speakers will be all yours for questions: how the companies and the designers work together to offer you those always fresh design objects, what the meanings are behind the names, how the ever advancing technology allows a design to finally enter production, and even some gossip about designers and coming products, and everything else you want to know....

An opportunity not to be missed, we decided to make it even grander by offering a discount (10% off of in-stock inventory) on the brand during the event, and each company generously gave us an item to be raffled by the end of the evening.

Alessi - Friday July 17th, from 5 to 7 pm

Jens Menke for Alessi will open the series on July 17th from 5 to 7 pm.

Jens was born in Hannover, Germany. After studying economics and working for 2 years for a porcelain company, Rosenthal AG, he join the Alessi team. For 5 years with the Alessi Deutschland, and since 1999 for Alessi USA. There is little he doesn't know about the brand, the products and the designers!

The Alessi item to be raffled is a Michael Graves Tea Kettle.

Kartell - Thursday August 13th from 5 to 7 pm

Carol Wright will then introduce Kartell. Kartell is the most recent addition to the store.

Carol Wright studied painting in her native Virginia before further studies in furniture design at CCA in San Francisco. After years of working as a furniture designer and maker in the Bay Area, she joined Kartell in 2004 to develop the North American market. In that time she has been a part of the dramatic growth and interest in design by attending the "Salone del Mobile" in Milan and "The International Contemporary Furniture Fair" in New York. She enthusiastically promotes Kartell's important role in design history plus their ongoing technological and product innovations.

The Kartell item to be raffled is a Take Lamp by Ferrucio Laviani

Iittala - Friday September 4th from 5 to 7 pm

And then Sam Ferris will close the design feast with iittala.
Sam began working with iittala as the company's California representative in 1994.  He has visited the factories in Finland and has met many of iittala's top designers.  Sam's father, Joel Ferris, started one of the first contemporary design stores on the West Coast in 1950.  Good design has always been an important element in his life.  One of iittala's core values is "lasting everyday design against throwawayism".  This principle is being rediscovered today as we consider what is important in our own lives.

Come see what's new and some classics too.  We promise it will be good... That's part of iittala's DNA.

The iittala item to be raffled is a Tools 3 quart casserole designed by Bjorn Dahlstrom
