Keep Em' Buzzin' Apiaries and Bee Farm is located on a six acre farm in the Brian's Road area. Lyle Bradford is committed to providing pure and natural honey to area consumers. His farm is a refuge for all pollinators and is free of insecticides and herbicides. Lyle uses a hive numbering system to keep track of the hives' genetic make up and records traits of the bees. His primary goals are to educate people about the plight of the honey bees as well as supply honey and other bee products to customers. Lyle attended the SBDC Start Right for Success and Business Plan classes. These seminars helped launch his successful business. Lyle's products are located at the Waldorf Farmer's Market (Saturdays) at the Festival Shopping Center (Rt. 228/301) as well as at his farm. To learn more, contact Lyle Bradford at 301-375-6288.

Marketing Plan + August = September Success

 

Like many businesses, August may be one of your slow months. With less revenue coming in, you may feel pessimistic about the remainder of 2011. Time to turn lemons into lemonade and plan for success. Maria Dorsett Transitions from SBDC Counselor to Business Retention Specialist
 
Congratulations to Maria Dorsett for her recent move to Calvert County Department of Economic Development as a Business Retention Specialist. Maria had been with the Maryland Small Business Development Center for five years and helped numerous small and medium sized companies in Calvert County. Maria will be missed by all, but she will continue to serve many of the same businesses in her new role.

The SBDC Biz-E Newsletter will feature five clients who are 30-something and profile their businesses. After the series of five, we'll feature 40-somethings until we have reached some folks who are seasoned entrepreneurs and maybe a serial entrepreneur or two! If you would like to be in one of the upcoming five newsletters and you fit the age criteria, just email your profile/business to Linda at lindacr@csmd.edu. We'll take the first five we receive. We're looking for: Your most significant professional/business accomplishment; where you went to High School/College; what led you to be an entrepreneur; your elevator speech regarding your business. 

Quickbooks Workshops at CSM/LaPlata
 
The SBDC will be offering a Quickbooks workshop on Saturday, August 6 at the College of Southern Maryland, La Plata, Business and Industry Room BI-102, 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Quickbooks 2010 version will be utilized for this training.  Course is SBC-6370-93495 with $106 tuition and $19 combined fee.
