NEWS FROM BAINBRIDGE
BEACH NATURALISTS             June, 2011Beach Naturalists
Welcome to the first newsletter for the Bainbridge Beach Naturalists.  This is a result of a meeting held on Bainbridge Island in mid-May, attended by Peg Tillery and a number of the Bainbridge residents who are Beach Naturalists, Beach Watchers and Rain Garden folks.  The people in attendance decided to set up some local activities to further our own skills as well as provide opportunities for our community members to become more interested in and knowledgeable about our beaches and shorelines.

Any Beach Naturalist is encouraged to initiate activities through this newsletter, and any Beach Naturalist can join in to assist or participate in whatever way s/he is able--at the beach, in the schools, with publicity, conducting beach monitoring or other creative ways you develop.

This newsletter will include information about coming events and opportunities to volunteer with the Bainbridge Beach Naturalists, right here on the island.  Summer is a great time for low-tide day time trips, so come join us.

beach teaching
Bainbridge Beach Naturalists are just getting started in creating a presence here on the island.  One goal is to help provide an education for visitors to our beaches.  We are working with the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District to provide beach naturalist opportunities at Fay Bainbridge Park.  We would like to cover other beaches as well.  If you are interested in volunteering at another island beach, or have some ideas for other activities for the Bainbridge Beach Naturalists, please let us know.
Contact us with any ideas or questions at 206-780-0982 (Gerlind) or 206-842-7652 (Barb).

Let's have a great summer on our wonderful beaches!

Sincerely,
Bainbridge Beach Naturalists
