Free or Inexpensive Family Fun

Are you looking for some inexpensive but yet educational family fun?  Visit one of the area festivals or fairs this summer.  United Way of Southwest MN has partnered with the Lyon County Fair to bring the Zerebko exotic animal petting zoo to the area August 1-4.  Children will have an opportunity to be close to a number of interesting animals.

Stuff the Bus Bowling Party

Bremer Bank is sponsoring a 'Free Will Donation" bowling party to raise funds to purchase items for the Stuff the Bus school supply collection project.  Monday, August 6, 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Marshall Bowling Alley.   The bowling is free and the shoes are too.  Come have some fun and help needy children in this area.

Taste of Italy Spaghetti Dinner will benefit Community Partners

U.S. Bank will hold it's annual fund-raising event to help local organizations.  This year New Horizons Crisis Center and Special Olympics of Southwest MN will benefit from this effort.  Come have some delicious food (eat in or carry-out) on Wednesday, August 8, 4:30 - 7:30 at SMSU Student Center.

Get your advance tickets from one of these community partners or at other sales locations in the area.

Kitchen Table Food Shelf Expansion
Ground breaking at Food Shelf

If you travel on MN Highway 23 you may have noticed all the activity at Western Community Action, 1400 S Saratoga St., Marshall.  The construction will allow the addition of walk-in refrigerators, freezers and much needed storage space for donated food items.  This will help with food insecurity of local people and better serve this area.  This is an exciting project.

(Reminder:  Take your extra garden produce to any of the food shelves in this area.  It will be put to good use to help hungry people.)
