Wild about reading puppets
Fox and Pig help illustrate favorite Imagination Library books that are read by volunteers during United Way Success By 6 Wild About Reading mobile learning programs this summer in 16 area parks.
What's the big deal about reading.....

Research clearly shows the direct connection between coming to school ready to learn and later success in school which in turn equals a better chance for success in life after school.  Reading to young children and helping to instill a love of reading makes a huge difference in their school readiness development.  It seems too simple to be true, but every time you read to a child you are building their brain and helping them set the stage for future learning.

Otto Bremer Foundation invests in our young children

The United Way Success By 6 Initiative has been awarded a $50,000 Otto Bremer Foundation grant to expand mobile learning work for young children.  The first stage of the expansion is to pilot a 10 week quality early learning program this summer for young children who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to be involved. The curriculum is based upon children's books.  Each week the children receive a copy for their very own use and to read at home.  Read more here.

Learn more about Men's Depression.

Our culture teaches us that a tough guy-a man's man-doesn't get depressed.  Learn more by attending a short presentation by Mark Meier who is mid-way in a cross country bicycle ride to build awareness about depression in men.  Also, hear about his travel experiences.

Saturday, July 2 (3-5 pm) at the Daily Grind, Marshall.
