To "LIVE UNITED" means that we are willing to be part of something bigger than ourselves. It means that we are willing to invest in our friends, neighbors and the community we live in. This spirit of selfless giving is imbedded in the culture of this area. Following are local examples of people who demonstrate that they LIVE UNITED:
Keith Miller has been involved in all aspects of United Way of Southwest MN. Perhaps you can find him trimming shrubbery during a Day of Action, reviewing grant applications, playing basketball at an event, or just being a concerned and caring individual who doesn't seek credit for what he does. Keith was recently named the 2011 Volunteer of the Year. When he isn't volunteering at United Way or taking part in family activities, Keith can be found on the job at Grill Works, Inc.

Mackenzie Henle, a Marshall High School senior, has actively participated in Youth As Resources, Peer Helpers and Ambassadors. She has been student chair of YAR for 2 years. A project that she and a friend initiated helps bring generations together to help those who need assistance with their grocery shopping. Mackenzie received a 2011 LIVE UNITED award.

Trudy Madetzke volunteers at Head Start and loves to put books into the hands of young children. She started a "book checkout" program and helps children choose books that complement the weekly theme of the class. She helps the children learn that reading can be fun and a way to gain a greater understanding of the world. Trudy received a 2011 LIVE UNITED award.

A volunteer at the Kitchen Table Food Shelf for over 20 years, Lil Leach has found a way to make newer volunteers feel welcome and to 'learn the ropes'. Lil picks up donated bread from a local food market in the early morning hours at least three days a week. Lil received a 2011 LIVE UNITED award. |
