Thank you for caring

Thank you to the people and businesses in this area for your ongoing support of the annual United Way of Southwest Minnesota campaign.  This is especially appreciated during this difficult economic time.  Now more than ever your local charitable response makes a real difference in local people's lives and advances the common good in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and western Redwood Counties of Minnesota as noted by a few following examples.

Last month volunteers started helping qualifying individuals and families with free preparation of their taxes.  Over the past 4 years, approximately $2.25 million has been returned to the local economy through this effort.

Families of 2,416 local children ages 0-5 are building school readiness skills each time their monthly, free Imagination Library book is read aloud.

Parents have the opportunity to refine their skills through parent education workshops, such as the one that will be presented free of charge at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22 at the Marshall High School theatre by noted parenting educator, Ada Alden, author of "Parenting on Purpose:  Red, Yellow, Green Framework for Respectful Discipline".

A prescription drug discount card distributed by United Way that can be used at many local pharmacies, has helped local individuals lacking prescription drug insurance save $58,048 (Oct 2008  - Feb 2011 statistics) on their medical costs.

All of this, plus much more, happens on an ongoing basis in this area because you give your time and donations.
