Take Action Today!
June 21st is the longest day of the year, with more daylight hours than any other.  With more time to volunteer to bring light into someone's life and more chances to lend your voice to a cause, June 21st is United Way's National Day of Action.  This year, we're asking you to get involved in issues related to Education.

Today, 6,000 young people will drop out of school. That's 1.2 million high school dropouts a year - and 1.2 million young adults closing a door of opportunity.  High school dropouts are more than 12 years in the making.  By 3rd grade, a child's grades and absenteeism rates can predict with 90% accuracy whether he or she will complete high school.  .

What's the impact of high school dropouts in your community? United Way's Common Good Forecaster™ shows how education affects your community's future.  It can predict how higher levels of education in your county might lower the poverty and unemployment rates, boost incomes, and much more.

The United Way System has put a stake in the ground on education.  Our goal is to cut the number of high school dropouts in half by 2018.  You can help by forwarding this message to your friends and family.  You also can volunteer as a reading tutor or in other ways to help Education.

Education is the key to getting a good job, one with a good income and health care, and it is key to a good life for individuals and our communities.  Join our movement and connect with our local United Way to learn more about how you can advance the common good in the area of Education and LIVE UNITED.
