Dear CIHS Community Members,
I hope you are enjoying this spring season.
There are a couple of announcements in this newsletter. The first one is about the Manipura Chakra workshop on campus. The early registration for this workshop ended last week, but there are a few spots still open. This is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your knowledge, experience, and practice in yoga and meditation with dedicated Masters who are only here once a year. If you are interested in the workshop, you can view the course outline from here. Students can receive academic credit for this workshop, and it is open to the CIHS community and public, as long as there still is space. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. ( hideki_baba@cihs.edu)
The second announcement is about our 4th Annual Subtle Energy Science Conference, Subtle Energy Science: Art & Practice of Consciousness & Healing, scheduled on July 20, 21 and 22. We will also be celebrating CIHS' 20th anniversary, along with the conference. Please see Dr. Hope Umansky's article describing the conference. This is a wonderful event where the larger CIHS community comes together to celebrate being on the frontier of subtle energy science. We have had a full house every year and this year we are focusing on experiential presentations to add dimension to the science and subtle energy science lectures. We have a fee schedule for this conference, and early registration fee (by July 1) is $395 whereas regular fee is $425. This covers Friday night lecture, full days Saturday and Sunday, including dinner Friday, breakfast, lunch, and snacks both Saturday and Sunday. Early registration is now open so please register through the link here.
Lastly, Spring Quarter just began last week. Some courses are still open for registration. Almost all of our classes can be taken as an audit status or provisional student. Thus, if you want to see experience our classes and innovative curriculum, you are welcome to take a class that may support your interests. Every quarter we offer classes that represent innovations in subtle energy science, comparative religion and philosophy, and psychology. If you have any questions about your academic program and what courses best support your goals, please email Dr. Hope Umansky (Hope_Umansky@cihs.edu). Please view our unique course schedule from the link here.

Message from the Dean: Subtle Energy Science

The California Institute for Human Science invites you to an exploration into the heart and science of subtle energy studies and practice July 20-22, 2012. CIHS' annual conference, Subtle Energy Science: Art & Practice of Consciousness and Healing (view Flyer) is a journey into subtle energy science, research, and the practical applications of studying the human biofield that surrounds us. Subtle energy is the universal life force that runs through and between all living beings and "things." In recent years, scientific results and practical healing application of subtle energy has influenced the nature of science, medicine, psychology, research, and all of the healing arts. For thousands of years, esoteric traditions recognized this energy field that surrounds us as prana, life force, chi, kundalini, to name just a few. Subtle energy and the human biofield includes the soul and energy body that permeates and connects all sentient beings to each other, throughout all nature. Traditional science formerly discounted "quantum" or life force energy as real or viable because it follows a model of dualistic thinking that is materially based. Thus, "if you cannot measure it, it does not exist." Not only can science measure/identify subtle energy at this point in time, we know from experience it exists, and the manipulation or application of energy through the healing arts is deeply transformative. Despite the fact that subtle energy is essentially nonlinear, which makes it challenging to characterize and define, knowledge of its theoretical basis and the practical application of it assists us moving toward higher consciousness in our professional, academic, scientific, and interpersonal lives. As researchers, scientists, doctors, practitioners, students, therapists, and explorers, we know it exists, and it is an essential part of our humanness and drive to be whole, as well as recognize the Whole Human Being (body-mind-spirit) in research and practice. CIHS' conference will examine the theoretical basis and provide practical application of its many uses on the frontiers of healing, research, and science. Subtle Energy Science: Art & Practice of Consciousness & Healing will provide an active learning arena with pioneers in the field presenting experiential and research based presentations as well as tools and techniques for practical applications. Throughout the weekend, you will have the opportunity to play, apply, and study with the tools and theories presented. Join us for an in depth exploration into the frontier of consciousness and healing that reflects the revolutionary influence subtle energy has on research, practice, science, and all the healing arts. Keynote speakers will include Dr. William Tiller, Dr. Claude Swanson, and Dr. Beverly Rubik, among many others. Seating is limited: Early registration prior to July 1 is $395. Sincerely, Hope Umansky, PhD Hope_Umansky@cihs.edu |
