CIHS Newsletter October 2011

Dear CIHS Community Members,

Fall is here, and it is getting chilly in Southern California. We hope everyone is doing well and is ready for a beautiful autumn.

We have two articles to present in this newsletter: First, we have a very important announcement regarding CIHS' new structure. As we briefly mentioned in last issue, Dr. Harada left CIHS at the end of September, and now we are moving forward under the leadership of Dr. Hope Umansky. Please spend some time reading her article, and if you are interested in CIHS or have questions about any of our courses or programs, please visit our website (www.cihs.edu) or directly contact Dr. Hope Umansky (hope_umansky@cihs.edu) for any assistance. The second article in our newsletter is CIHS' Founder and President's, Dr. Motoyama's, address to our September 10, 2011 graduates. We had a great ceremony with a total of 7 graduates this year.

Again, we are working hard as a new team for CIHS. We greatly appreciate your support and participation in our community either as a graduate student, researcher, or by simply attending one of our workshops.

Thank you for your continued support in this time of growth for CIHS.

Sincerely,

Hideki Baba, Ph.D.

Dear CIHS Community,

As the seasons change and fall is here, change comes to CIHS as it has so often in the last few years. Last month, we said good-bye to seven graduates who well represent the CIHS student community. Graduation is always bittersweet for a school, but we trust our graduates will be stewards of the deeper mission of CIHS.

As many of you know, Dr. Toshiaki Harada retired his post as Vice President of CIHS. He brought many powerful contributions, especially in the Life Physics department and with establishing CIHS as a private research facility. All of us on the administrative team know we have large shoes to fill, and we wish him well in all of his future endeavors.

This month marks my first year at CIHS. With Dr. Harada's departure, I have moved into a new role as Dean of Academic Affairs and Administration, Psychology Program Director, as well as managing our Comparative Religion and Integral Health Students. I will continue working with those of you with whom I have established relationships, and I look forward to getting to know the population of our student body with whom I have yet to work. I am humbled by the task ahead and confident that we can emerge as a strong force in mind-body-spirit centered private higher education. Our focus on consciousness and the east-west perspective underlies all of our departments. In particular, the opportunity to earn a license eligible psychology degree as a Marriage Family Therapist (MFT) or a Clinical Psychologist is unique in the field that is predominantly focused on a medical model curriculum. Even these traditional degrees, including Comparative Religion and Philosophy, honor our consciousness-based curriculum. As for our other programs, which are most unique, Integral Health and Life Physics, we continue to educate researchers, practitioners, and all those involved in the healing arts and the pursuit of this unique brand of knowledge.

During this time, we are also celebrating out 20th year as a graduate school and research center. We published a new catalog with some exciting new programs, and our next project will be the website. We are excited about this new phase of development for CIHS, and we are working steadily to extend our ties in the consciousness community. As such, we welcome inquires from like-minded individuals who are interested in our graduate school and any individuals who may want to conduct private research in CIHS' lab. If you would like to make an appointment to come see the campus and meet with me, please do not hesitate to call or email and set up an appointment. I can be reached at 760-634-1771 x114 or  Hope_Umansky@cihs.edu

I look forward to continuing my associations and work with all of you whom I know and those of you who I have yet to meet.

Sincerely yours,

President Address at Graduation Ceremony

Hiroshi Motoyama, Ph.D., Ph.D.

Welcome all graduates and family. We are so proud of our community members and look forward to our continuing association. At CIHS, all faculty teach their courses according to CIHS principles that honor the mind, body, spirit connection.

CIHS principles aim at teaching that humans consist of body, mind, and spirit and this is the essence of human beings. Education at CIHS always has this spiritual progression in mind.

I have had many mystical experiences in the process of my fast asceticism and meditation for five or more hours. I can see a soul with my spiritual eye. And I have had many experiences with the Graduation 2011 Dr. Motoyamaspirit of the person facing death by some accident, for instance, by a physician who mistreats and the spirit leaves their body. The physician says to a care taker please call all family and relatives. In such a case the care-taker who is our shrine member, telephoned us that the person was dead. I went inside of the shrine and pray to God. In such cases, I could see the spirit and felt his or her body, and it was just like a golden bright ball. Then I try to push the spirit back in his body. After 1 ~2 minutes he or she started breathing again and the heart began beating. The physician says that's miracle.

My first such an experience was about 40 years ago. The person had his health resorted and he thanked me for healing him. Through such mystical, spiritual experiences I believe that the human essence is the soul. We are all connected. With this idea, I founded CIHS.

At CIHS, our mission is teaching that the human essence is soul filled with love, wisdom and creative power. This awakens the soul. In the next 10~20 years of this century if the human population increases more and there is a food shortage, I am afraid people will struggle or attack each other if they use atomic weapon which lead the human to decrease or disappear form the earth. Spiritual progression and inner transformation can stop this.

But if we awake our soul filled with love, wisdom and creative power we can find how we can cooperate each other with nature and coexist. Then we will able to find the best way to coexist each other and with nature.

The above ideas are taught in philosophy and religion. On the other hand, CIHS tries to find out the existence of soul through electro physiological experiments.

During my meditation, I felt often in my body some energy or water flow along a channel I realized intuitionally. It is a subtle energy flowing in a meridian. When I succeed to unify the upperGraduation 2011 all body's subtle energy the lower body's at the meridian point related to the Svadhisthana chakra at this meridian point, a bright full golden circle is seen with my spiritual eye. The whole body's subtle energy is accumulated and unified subtle energy is converted from physical subtle energy into spiritual energy.

I invented the AMI which can measure the subtle energy flowing in meridian channel which are located at the basal membrane in dermis. The next experiment has been planned even indirectly to verify the existence of the soul that is as follows.

First I see with my spiritual eye a subject, and when it is clear that in him the Manipula chakra is awakened, we then measure the spiritual energy to the Manipula chakra before, during and after with continuous AMI. He shows a statistically significant change. We could say that spiritual energy has been converted from spiritual into subtle energy. Thus, even indirectly, the spiritual energy has been converted into subtle energy. So we can conclude that spiritual energy exists and can be converted into subtle energy.

To verify spirits existence we have done many experiments. Surely the spirit exists and our CIHS students will continue this pursuit out in the world as they carry their education with them serving spirit and consciousness.
