Believe it or not, summer is here. It is time to register for your summer courses. We are excited to offer some very innovative courses, including the study abroad at Oxford option. It is our pleasure to see all of you engage in your studies and move toward your goals.
*Registration begins June 13 through June 17.
* The quarter officially begins July 5 and runs through September 10.
Below is the list of course offerings for summer:
1. Research Methods for Religious Studies and Advanced Qualitative Research Methods - Sharon Mijares will teach this course.
This course is open to our comparative religion and psychology students. The syllabus has a track for MA students pursuing spiritual inquiry, and it has a different direction for psychological inquiry. This course is required for CRP students. For our PhD psych students, if you plan to write a qualitative dissertation, you must take this course. If you are planning to write a quantitative dissertation, you can choose to take the class as an elective. It is a wonderful addition to any psychology curriculum and would help you with report writing and other written tasks in the field.
2. Psychopharmacology -hybrid part on campus/part online - Dr. James Mattioda will teach this course.
This course is for our psychology students in the Master's and Doctorate programs, clinical emphasis. If you are planning to seek licensure, you must have this class.
3. Psychology of Shamanism -Dr. Mali Burgess
We are proud to welcome Dr. Mali Burgess to our faculty. Dr. Burgess will be teaching two classes this quarter. It is a unique opportunity to study with a Master in the field. We are thrilled to have her join our community.
Psychology of Shamanism is a core course for CRP students. Students in our other programs can take it as an elective.
4. Paradigm of Health and Disease - Dr. Mali Burgess
Paradigms of Health and Disease is a core course for our LP students. Students in our other programs can take it as an elective.
5. Neuroscience and Spirituality - Dr. Sam Aganov will teach this course. This course is for our comparative religion and philosophy students. Our psychology and integral health students can take this course as an elective, although it is not required.
* This course has the Study Abroad at Oxford option that would make it a hybrid course, part online and part in class. Otherwise, it will be conducted online.
6. Diagnosis in Clinical Psychology - Dr. Sam Aganov
This course is an excellent course for any psychology student. It is not "required" for licensure, but it is highly commended as a course of study. Without it, your curriculum is incomplete.
*This course has the Study Abroad at Oxford option. This option would be a hybrid course. Otherwise, it will be conducted online.
7. Spiritual Education Topic of Special Interest: Human Subtle Energy Detection: (2nd Bioenergy Devices and Research Seminar Workshop) -Dr. Toshiaki Harada
- 2 units plus a summary paper.
We are excited to announce our July workshop. It is a three-day weekend here on campus. If you would like to attend and have this count toward your spiritual education requirement (a requirement for ALL of our programs), you can enroll and at the completion, you would submit a summary paper, under the direction of Dr. Hope Umansky.
8. Introduction to AMI Research - Dr. Tsuchiya
This is on campus in the lab. It is required for Life Physics and open to Integral Health students.
9. Biophoton Detection and Its Research Application- Dr. Thomas Brophy will teach this course. This course is on campus in the lab. This is required for LP and open to IH students.
10. Life Force: Topic of Special Interest (online course)- Dr. Claude Swanson.
This will be the second time eminent scientist, Dr. Claude Swanson, will teach this course at CIHS. It was very popular the first time around. This is required for our LP students. Our IH, Psy, and CRP students can take it as an elective. It is also open to the public, meaning non-enrolled students. Thus, if you know of anyone who may be interested in experiencing this unique course, please have him or her contact CIHS.
If you are a psychology student and want to take electives, it is best to ensure you have room in your program for an elective. If the electives sound appealing to you and you have room in your program, I would first suggest Paradigms of Health and Disease and/or Neuroscience and Spirituality. Then, if you have room for an additional course, then Psychology of Shamanism would be great supplement to your program.
As always, you are welcome to email me (Hope_Umansky@cihs.edu) at any time to discuss questions or concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your program objectives and goals. I have core office hours each week. I would be happy to schedule a time to discuss each individual's program with him or her.
We hope you will take the opportunity to join us for the July conference. It is an exciting time at CIHS. We are growing in the field, and we are excited to have you as part of our research and graduate school community.
I look forward to my continued associations with each of you. Have a great summer. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
