Seminar/Workshop: Bioenergy Detection & Measurement
by Toshiaki Harada, Ph.D.
A two-day seminar/workshop entitled "Bioenergy Detection & Measurement" was held at CIHS on March 19-20, 2011. This was the second Seminar/Workshop organized jointly by CIHS and Dr. Thornton Streeter, Director of the Center for Biofield Sciences. Many people attended from across the United States. Including the staff of us organizers, equipment exhibitors, and the invited speakers, the total number of participants well exceeded 75 people, all with diverse backgrounds. There were professionals in academics and health care, energy healers and other modality practitioners, employees of instrument companies, and students. There were active questions and answers for each presentation reflecting growing interest in this emerging new field of science. Discussions and information sharing continued over coffee and lunch breaks. The two-day event was filled with passion and excitement. It is exciting to bear witness to the CIHS community becoming an integral part in subtle energy research.
On Day 1, following the welcome address and opening speeches by the two organizers, Dr. Beverly Rubik, biophysicist and Director of the Institute for Frontier Science, gave a keynote presentation showing the results of her own research as well as covering broad subject areas that constitute the bio-energy research. Specific topics included the "before/after changes" of Qigon practice by parametric analysis of GDV patterns showing statistically significant changes in density, fractal form coefficient and overall shapes. Another study showed distinct improvement in left-right balance in GDV parameters in accordance with the mastery levels of Qigon practice. Bacterial Growth Assey study of the so-called "external qi" showed fascinating correlation between the qigon healer's felt sense of wellness and the speed of bacterial growth indicating strong bio-energetic connection between the bacteria and the healer. This study demonstrated that the effect of "Energy Therapy" is clearly more than just a placebo effect. She concluded by saying there are two approaches in bioenergy research. One is Nomothetic which aims to find law-like regularities by studying a large number of subjects. The other is Ideographic which is basically the case study of, for example, pre/post intervention changes in a particular subject. They are both important at this stage of scientific development. Dr. Rubik also emphasized the importance of combining multiple devices in the study, particularly conventional devices and "less conventional" devices to achieve credibility in the mainstream science.
Dr. Rubik's presentation was followed by other presentations and demonstrations that explained the use and capabilities of IR Imaging, GDV, PIP, EPI, etc. Other novel devices exhibited included Tesla Energy Light, Trifinity8, Vortex Water and Natural Action Water. Participants were encouraged to move around and experience each device by themselves and form their own opinion. It was made clear at the outset that neither CIHS nor CBS endorse those devices that the exhibitors brought in. It was interesting to observe people's reactions. There were some "sensitive people" who definitely felt significant effect on their "energy body" when "treated" by those devices.
Day 2 opened with Dr. Claude Swanson's special lecture entitled "Life Force." Dr. Swanson is a well-recognized physicist who published over 100 research papers and technical reports in various fields of physics and engineering, both theoretical and experimental, including laser optics, remote sensing, signal processing, gravitational and quantum theory. Although he has been very active in physics, Dr. Swanson was aware of the limitation of conventional science and extensively investigated into the paranormal and the subtle energy. In 2003, he founded his own research institute called, Synchronized Energy Institute and has been conducting experimental and theoretical research into the physics of subtle energy and its relationship to mainstream physics. He presented a broad and comprehensive picture of the subtle energy studies from the early paranormal research in ESP, PK, remote viewing, precognition, Out of Body Experiences, Bakster effect, Orgone, Odic Energy, biogravity, among other phenomena to the rigorous experimental studies of Qigon on radioactive decay, Pranic Healing on micro organisms, and intention-imprinting effects studied by Dr. William Tiller. He emphasized that many of the manifestations of these "energies" defy the known laws of physics and requires new theoretical model for explanation. Dr. Swanson highlighted the work on "Torsion Energy/Field" by Russian scientists as one such promising model. It is an energy field created when an object is spinning. It is said to have characteristics distinctly different from the electromagnetic or gravitational forces well known in current scientific paradigm. Dr. Swanson expressed a view that the characteristics of Torsion Field are compatible with the anomalies reported in bioenergy research. He further emphasized that the theory of Torsion Field is amenable to experimental verification and encouraged that more scientists pay attention to this Russian development and test its validity with rigorously controlled experiments. Many of the topics Dr. Swanson presented are covered in his latest book, "Life Force - The Scientific Basis," which is so comprehensive with many references that it is believed to remain a foundational textbook in subtle energy research for students and professionals.
Dr. Swanson's presentation was followed by two AMI presentations by Dr. T. Harada and Dr. G. Chevalier. After the lecture session, Dr. K. Tsuchiya gave demonstrations of Continuous AMI experiment with a Qigon healer, and "before/after" measurements of Meridian Exercise by Standard AMI. Although ambient conditions were not necessarily suitable for such delicate experiments, noticeable changes were detected and explained by Dr. K. Tsuchiya.
We closed the two-day event with a speech by Dr. Bernard Williams, President & CEO of Holos University, and Editor of Journal & Chairman of the Board of the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energy and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM).
Overall, this Seminar/Workshop was measured as a great success by the majority of participants in attendance. It was a big success attracting so many people, reflecting a good mix of both professional and lay people. CIHS will continue to offer successive Seminar/Workshops under the lead subject of subtle energy research. Although program details are yet to be defined, we already set the dates for next major events as follows. We hope you will join our community in the following exciting event:
July 22nd (Fri) evening ~ 24th (Sun) AM (till noon): 2nd Bioenergy Devices and Research Seminar/Workshop (Dr. Claude Swanson, Dr. Beverly Rubik and Dr. William Tiller are invited speakers - confirmed)
July 24 (Sun) PM (from 2:00pm): Special Lectures by the Two Pioneers of Subtle Energy Research (Dr. William Tiller, Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama with prelude by Rev. Kazuhiro Motoyama)
We will announce the program details in due course. Meanwhile, we would encourage all who are interested to earmark above dates in their calendar. We sincerely hope you will join us as the CIHS community grows and establishes its eminence in the field.
