CIHS Newsletter March 2011

Dear CIHS Community Members,

Our March newsletter has two articles detailing our exciting future events. I wrote the first one, which is regarding our exciting Yoga Workshop on April 2 & 3. The deadline for early registration is rapidly approaching on March 11. For those who are interested in attending the workshop, please register online or contact me (hideki_baba@cihs.edu) if you have any questions. Seating is limited so please reserve your spot.

The other article is from Dr. Hope Umansky. She is announcing our course schedule for the Spring quarter. We are offering interesting and unique courses in the Spring quarter so if you are interested in CIHS or have questions about any of our courses or programs, please visit our website (www.cihs.edu) or directly contact Dr. Hope Umansky (hope_umansky@cihs.edu) for any assistance. If you are local and would like to visit our campus and discuss our exciting and unique graduate programs and research opportunities in person, we will be happy to schedule a time. We welcome all like-minded inquires for our graduate programs, research projects, and workshops. If you have a friend who may be interested in our program, please send us their information and we will be happy to send them an information packet.

Our intention this year is to grow as a vibrant and active learning community committed to holistic health and the progression of consciousness in the fields of psychology, integral health, comparative religion and philosophy, and subtle energy studies. We welcome you to be a part of our community.

Sincerely,

Hideki

Yoga Workshop with Takeshima and Paul Grilley
on April 2 (Sat.) & 3 (Sun.)

It is already in March, and spring is right around the corner. This spring, we are very excited to offer a Chakra Meditation workshop. We are honored to host renowned teachers, Mr. Takeshima from Japan, as well as Paul and Suzee Grilley for the workshop being held on campus April 2 & 3. For those who are planning to attend this workshop, the last day of early registration is March 11. If you register by 11th, you can save $40, and your total cost is $160. We will continue to offer the student discount after the 11th for college and university students only. However, we urge you to register early since seat availability is limited.

This year, the workshop will focus on the second chakra called, svadhisthana chakra. The location of the svadhisthana chakra on the front of the body is around the meridian points of chukyoku (CV 3, 1 1/4" above the pubic bone) and kangen (CV4, 2 1/2" above the pubic bone), which closely relates to the kidney meridian, the urinary balder meridian, the liver meridian, as well as the small intestine meridian. Dr. Motoyama always teaches that the meditation practitioner needs to balance your energy (ki, qi or prana) in the physical and subtle body in order to deepen your meditation safely and effectively. For this purpose, Mr. Takeshima starts with a meridian exercise before meditation. The meridian exercise includes pawanmuktasana which is a joint exercise to improve and invigorate the flow of energy through movement of each joints where body fluids tend to stagnate, as well as hip-joint and sacro-iliac joint exercises to align the sacrum bone, ilium, sacroiliac joint and hip joint which form the pelvis, the base of the physical body.

Mr.Takeshima has been studying a spiritual practice with Dr. Motoyama for approximately 30 years, and he is that rare instructor who is able to teach the essence of Dr. Motoyama's spiritual practice in English speaking countries. Additionally, in this workshop, we are happy to welcome Paul and Suzee Grilley. They will support and provide essential teaching, along with Mr. Takeshima, from their deep understanding of yoga and anatomy of the physical and subtle body.

Lastly, Mr. Takeshima will offer individual session on April 4th (Mon.) and 5Th (Tue.). This is an amazing opportunity for those who have any questions about yoga/meditation. It will allow you to seek a deeper understanding of your practice. If you have any questions or want to make a reservation, please contact Hideki at hideki_baba@cihs.edu. We look forward to experiencing a deeper and more mindful practice together with you at the spring yoga workshop.

Spring Quarter 2011 Course Schedule

Dear CIHS Community,

Spring is upon us. I hope everyone is finding his or her educational experience challenging and fulfilling. Our migration onto Moodle is essentially complete, and it appears that everyone is engaged. I have heard from most of you that you are being challenged and learning. As an administrator, that is what I like to see. If you were not feeling challenged at some time during your program, you would not be learning and growing.

I also want to thank you for making my transition smooth. I am available to advise and guide you.  Ultimately, of course, taking accountability of fulfilling your educational goals is up to you, but I am here to assist and help you navigate the process as best I can. Please feel free to email, call, or make an appointment to come in and see me. I am happy to review your program and course analytics at any time to make sure you are confident about the direction of your educational and professional goals.

The Winter quarter is drawing to an end, and it is time to think about what classes you are taking in the Spring. Registration week is March 14-18. To encourage timely registration, there will be a discount on each course unit if you sign up during this week. The Spring quarter officially begins March 28.

We will be offering the following:

The first option is a yoga workshop entitled Chakra Awakening Workshop (second chakra). This will be taught by Yukihiro Takeshima and Paul Grilley.

The second option is AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy) by Dr. Mary Clark and Victoria Danzig. There is information about this course on our website.

Additionally, we will be offering Hinduism by Krishna Rao for our Comparative Religion and Philosophy students.

For our Integral Health and Life Physics students, we will be offering some exciting courses. In this program, we are excited to implement new courses many esteemed faculty in the field of subtle energy teaching.
