CIHS Newsletter December 2010

Dear Reader,

December is already upon us, and the year 2010 is nearing an end. We greatly appreciate all of our monthly loyal newsletter readers, as it helps us stay connected to you and all of our valued community members. We hope you are enjoying this beautiful holiday season.

In this last newsletter of 2010, we have a couple of upcoming announcements for 2011. First, our course schedule for the Winter quarter, 2011, has been established. We are offering some unique courses in the winter quarter so please contact our program director, Dr. Hope Umansky, if you have any questions or are interested in enrolling in CIHS (hope_umansky@cihs.edu). Our official registration week is 12/13 through 12/17. If you register during this period, we are offering an incentive of $20 per unit off the normal course rate. During the Winter quarter, we are offering two core requirements for all of our Psychology programs, Consciousness Studies and Psychotherapy Approaches & Strategies. Additionally, we are offering Aging, Long-term Care, & Grief, which is a required course for licensure in the state of California. Even if you are not planning to seek a license in psychology, it is an excellent core course for all psychology students. In our other programs, we are offering courses in Life Physics, Integral Health, and Comparative Religion & Philosophy. Please contact your program director or Hideki for specific registration information (info@cihs.edu). It is also on our website to ensure you are able to secure the classes you need and/or want as we are anticipating an exciting and busy time during this new year.

Our second announcement is about our annual yoga workshop inviting Takeshima and Paul & Suzee Grilley on April 2 & 3, 2011. There is a workshop outline for your review. We plan to set up the fee schedule and online registration by the middle of December so please come back to our website for more information.

Lastly, we would like to invite all of our community members, past, current, and prospective, to our New Year's party on Friday, January 14 at CIHS. This is an evening potluck party, and everybody is welcome. If you know someone who may be interested in our unique graduate school and learning community, we welcome you to bring them. We are looking forward to reconnecting with those we know and meeting those new to CIHS to share our community and discuss our aim and goals of the coming year. If you are interested in joining the party, please RSVP to Tamiko Voros or call her 760-634-1771. We look forward to seeing you.

All of the faculty and staff here wish you a wonderful holiday season. May it follow you throughout the coming year.

Svadhisthana Chakra (2nd chakra) Awakening Workshop

April 2 & 3, 2011

The word "svadhisthana" means "the original home of the self," with "the self" designating the kundalini. Although the kundalini actually resides within the muladhara chakra (muladhara chakra), it originates within the svadhisthana. In the physical body, the root of the svadhisthana chakra is located in the region of the first through third sacral vertebrae. The location of the svadhisthana chakra on the front of the body is around the meridian points of chukyoku (CV 3, 1 1/4" above the pubic bone) and kangen (CV4, 2 1/2" above the pubic bone), which closely relates to the kidney meridian, the urinary balder meridian, the liver meridian, as well as the small intestine meridian.

Svadhisthana chakra is basic to human life, since it provides each of us with both a body and an integrated personality. The muladhara chakra contains the fundamental energy (kundalilni) in the material world in the physical, astral, and causal dimensions, but the svadhisthana chakra functions to actualize this fundamental energy to materialize our bodies at the three levels. The svadhisthana is also closely related to water. The control of water within the body is an important life-support function, and this control is activated and controlled by the working of the svadhisthana.

The svadhisthana chakra is the chakra of the unconscious, and this is where karmic seeds are stored. When the svadhisthana is awakened, you will come face-to-face with karmic seeds that have been stored there. Further, these are very important activities in order to purify your unconsciousness and soul, but it also means that this can cause a lot of trouble since this chakra closely relates to unconsciousness.

When the svadhisthana is activated, you feel invigorated and become healthy. In addition, if you subliminate this fundamental energy (kundalini) through vigorous practice, you are able to obtain paranormal ability such as sharp intuition, psychokinetic power (PK), and extra-sensory perception (ESP).
