Good News about State Approval..!

After nearly five years of uncertainty about the status of private schools and limitations imposed regarding professional licensing for psychology degrees; the legislature has passed a law AB48 to reinstate the Bureau (now called the BPPEE) that approves private schools as from the beginning of 2010.

We have not had official notification yet but it is official and the information has been given as an official press to the media and it is posted on websites.  We are expecting an official letter to forward to students as soon as new staff is in place.

The other good news is that the Board of Behavioral Science that licenses MFT psychology degrees is now accepting students from private schools as before for licensing and  the Board of Psychology(BoP) that licenses  clinical psychology PhD degrees also appears to be tentatively agreeing to do so.

The following is a quote from the BoP to a student who last week applied to register her degree

in light of AB48, which was signed by the Governor on October 11, 2009, effective 1/01/2010, if Ms. B were to receive her degree from an approved school after 01/01/2010, unless the law changes, the Board will accept that degree as meeting the requirements of Section 2914 of the Business and Professions Code.

It seems the New Year will bring the beginning of normal functioning for us..!

Motoyama Meridian Exercise Workshop

with Kuratani sensei

TakeshimaMotoyama Meridian Exercise workshop was held on the weekend of October 31 and November 1 inviting Ms. Kiyomi Kuratani from Japan. It was a wonderful event. Kuratani sensei (teacher) has 32 years of experience in teaching Meridian Exercise. Her instructions based on her expert knowledge of acupuncture meridian systems as a licensed acupuncturist was very informative and practical. During the two days she taught a series of meridian exercise body postures and movements including Pawanmuktaasana and alignment of the hip/Sacro-iliac joint. Some movements of meridian exercise are apparently similar to those of yoga practice but Kuratani sensei taught those exercises emphasizing the effects on Ki-energy flow through the meridian system.
Motoyama meridian exercise was originally developed by Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama and has been refined further by Kuratani sensei. It streamlines the flow of Ki-energy in the human body and has been proven to be very effective to invigorate and maintain good health of the physical body. Dr. Motoyama found from his long aesthetic religious/spiritual practices that Ki-energy tends to stagnate at joints and such physical disorder as misalignment of hip and sacro-iliac joint may occur during the course of daily life. The series of exercise is designed to restore healthy Ki-energy flow and alignment of hip and sacro-lilac joint. The exercise is made up of relatively easy and non-invasive movements which anyone can practice. However, since each individual has different physical conditions and Ki-energy patterns, Kuratani sensei guided participants to adapt the exercise to suit each person's particular conditions for optimum benefits.
After the workshop, Kuratani sensei offered a 4-day intensive evening course to those who were interested in more Takeshimadetails and exercises for specific meridians.  In this intensive course, she gave the participants deeper insights into the exercises designed for individual meridians along with the acupuncture meridian theory as its basis. Thus, the participants appreciated the unique opportunity to learn the meridian exercise from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
While she was here at CIHS Kuratani sensei kindly demonstrated Pawamuktasana and allowed us to video tape her body movements.  We plan to edit the video and make the DVD available online from our website. This DVD will be approximately 25 minutes and we will announce in our newsletter and our website when it is ready for sale. So, please keep visiting our website or send your inquiry directly to us.
Last but not least, we'd like to express our heartfelt thanks to Kuratani sensei, who kindly created time to travel all the way from Japan, specifically for the meridian exercise events, despite her extremely busy schedule.  We also extend our thanks to everyone who participated in the events and helped create the good spiritual atmosphere throughout the events.
