Employee Notification for Premium Assistance Programs
| | Please alert your clients about their responsibility to provide notice to all employees, including those not enrolled in the health plan, about premium assistance programs that might be available for themselves and their families. The notice must be provided on an annual basis. Groups with effective dates on or after March 1, 2010 need to provide this notice to employees by May 1, 2010. Groups who renewed in January or February 2010 must provide this notice for the first time when they renew in 2011. Click here to view a model Medicare and Child Health Insurance Program notice. |
Group Application Reminder
| |
Remember that all Group Applications must be completed in full, signed and returned prior to a group's renewal effective date. When a group receives their renewal materials approximately 45 days prior to their effective date, their renewal cover letter states:
"To renew your group policy and avoid disruption in your coverage, complete the enclosed Group Application, include a copy of your selected benefit plan(s) and rates and return 15 days prior to your renewal date. In the event the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, your confirmation will be accepted on the next business day. If we have not received your Group Application, your current contract will be terminated on the last day of your current contract year. "
Your assistance in acquiring the Group Application in a timely manner is appreciated. |
Health Care Reform
| |
Coventry Health Care enters this new health reform environment as a strong company with many resources and prepared for change. We have been planning and developing the right strategies that are aligned with our core strengths for a long time.
Health reform poses challenges for our industry, but it also creates opportunities. By later this year and January 2011, we need to comply with major new regulations in our individual and group commercial markets. New federal rate review processes and requirements on medical loss ratios, pre-existing conditions, rescissions, annual and lifetime benefit caps, and mandated benefits will quickly be affected by the new regulations.
At Coventry, we have the talent, capabilities, and operational excellence that allow us to continuously improve our business, make it stronger, and compete. Health reform means as much to our millions of customers as it does to us. Health insurers are not perfect, but we are just one piece of the puzzle. In fact, we are one of the few health care stakeholders that focus every day on high-quality care in all settings at the most affordable cost to all our customers. We will continue to play an integral role and be part of the solution to the problems in the U.S. health care system. As brokers, you know that health care is incredibly personal. It is about people and their families, and we work hard every day to do a great job of providing high-quality health care coverage and financial security at an affordable cost. Health care is also an inherently complex business, and this reform package makes it even more complicated. Our customers have a lot of questions about health reform and what it means to them and their families, and we have a responsibility to give them clear answers whenever we can. Please continue to watch this broker newsletter for updates as they become available. |
