Truckee's Premier Fine Art Gallery features the works of local Truckee artists Elizabeth and Olof Carmel. The newly opened Carmel Gallery is located near the Truckee Hotel at 10035 Church Street. The Carmel's purchased the historic Schaffer house, built in 1895 by one of Truckee's founders, and are renovating the building to restore it's historic appearance. The Carmel Gallery is on the ground floor of this historic building. The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 to 5, Sundays from 11-3, and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays it is open by appointment only.
Elizabeth and Olof Carmel are Sierra-based photographers specializing in unique and expressive landscapes of the natural world. Their prints combine dramatic photography, vivid colors, and artistic touches to create new, captivating visions of the natural world. All of their work is printed as museum quality pigment prints using archival inks and printing materials.
Elizabeth is the author of the recently released best selling book "Brilliant Waters, Portraits of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and the High Sierra". Signed copies of her book are available for purchase at the gallery. Using a 39 megapixel Hasselblad camera, her work emphasizes incredible detail, extraordinary composition and unparalleled color and toonal range. Prints are available in small, exclusive limited editions of 50.
With a background in drawing and watercolor, Olof Carmel's fine art prints are more impressionistic in appearance and merge the reality of a photograph with the artistic expression of a painting. His popular and colorful images are printed on watercolor paper and canvas and emphasize local Tahoe Truckee. Yosemite, and Alaska scenery. A former woodworker, Olof is also actively involved on a daily basis in all the Carmel's matting and framing production.

New Collection of Fine Art Prints Now Online
There is an online portfolio of new prints from the Sea of Cortes at www.ElizabethCarmel.com. We traveled to Baja in early December as photography instructors with American Safari Cruises, and were amazed at the abundant marine life and the beautiful colors of this remote desert / ocean landscape. Most of the images in this new portfolio are from the uninhabited islands in the Sea of Cortes.

Olof Carmel has introduced some new fine art prints from Tuscany and the Napa Valley in Autumn. These images can be viewed at the following links: Vineyards and Foothills, and Europe.

New Carmel Gallery Building Under Construction
Olof has been using his skills as an architect and builder to move forward on the construction of our new 2600 square foot gallery building in downtown Truckee, behind the location of the existing gallery. After a busy year designing the building and getting local planning and building approvals, he poured the foundation just hours before the first big storm of the season arrived in November. Plans are to resume framing the building in March 2008 and to have a big grand opening later in the year. The new gallery will front onto Donner Pass Road, the main street in historic downtown Truckee.
