Truckee's Newest Fine Art Gallery features the works of local Truckee artists Elizabeth and Olof Carmel. The newly opened Carmel Gallery is located near the Truckee Hotel at 10035 Church Street. The Carmel's purchased the historic Schaffer house, built in 1895 by one of Truckee's founders, and are renovating the building to restore it's historic appearance. The Carmel Gallery is on the ground floor of this historic building. The gallery is open daily from 11 to 5, except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when it is open by appointment only.

Elizabeth Carmel is a Sierra-based photographer specializing in unique, expressive landscapes and "waterscapes". Her prints combine dramatic photography, vivid colors, and artistic touches to create new, captivating visions of the natural world. Elizabeth is the author of the recently released book "Brilliant Waters, Portraits of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and the High Sierra". Signed copies of her book are available for purchase at the gallery.

With a background in drawing and watercolor, Olof Carmel's fine art prints are more impressionistic in appearance and merge the reality of a photograph with the artistic expression of a painting. His popular and
colorful images are printed on watercolor paper and canvas and emphasize local and Sierra Nevada scenery. Olof's award winning work was recently
selected for display in the California State Capitol.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS:

Fellow photographers may be interested in some upcoming presentations I will be giving in New York and Chicago. Hasselblad and Calumet are sponsoring these events. The confirmed New York and Chicago dates are: Wednesday October 17, 2007 from 2 to 4 PM at the Calumet in New York (this is scheduled to occur the day before the start of PDN PhotoPlus Expo in NYC), and Monday October 22, 2007 from 2-4 PM at the Calumet in Chicago. I will be speaking about the process of creating and publishing my book "Brilliant Waters: Portraits of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and the High Sierra". I will also discuss how I use the Hasselblad H3D, a 39 megapixel Medium Format Digital Camera System, to create my fine art landscape prints. More information is on my web site and my PhotoBlog.

Newly Redesigned and Updated Website

www.ElizabethCarmel.com has been redesigned and updated with new image portfolios and information. Images featuring the winter landscapes are now grouped in the portfolio Winter's Grace, and there are also new portfolios of images featuring the High Sierra, Nature's Abstracts, and Panoramas.

There is also a Workshops link that provides information about my upcoming events in New York and Chicago. We are also working on a comprehensive update to www.CarmelStudios.com which features the more photo-impressionistic work by Olof Carmel.

New Fine Art Prints of the High Sierra

I have added a new collection of prints from a recent trip to the backcountry of the Emigrant Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. You can view these 5 new fine art prints in the High Sierra Portfolio at ElizabethCarmel.com. All of these images are available as fine art prints in sizes up to 65" wide or tall.

We invite everyone to enjoy the wonderful Tahoe Summer and view our work at our final outdoor art show of the season at Kings Beach. We will have our work on display over Labor Day Weekend - here are the details:
