 Truckee's Newest Fine Art Gallery features the works of local Truckee artists Elizabeth and Olof Carmel. The newly opened Carmel Gallery is located near the Truckee Hotel at 10035 Church Street. The Carmel's purchased the historic Schaffer house, built in 1895 by one of Truckee's founders, and are renovating the building to restore it's historic appearance. The Carmel Gallery is on the ground floor of this historic building. The gallery is open daily from 11 to 5, except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when it is open by appointment only.
Elizabeth Carmel is a Sierra-based photographer specializing in unique, expressive landscapes and "waterscapes". Her prints combine dramatic photography, vivid colors, and artistic touches to create new, captivating visions of the natural world. Elizabeth is the author of the recently released book "Brilliant Waters, Portraits of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and the High Sierra". Signed copies of her book are available for purchase at the gallery. With a background in drawing and watercolor, Olof Carmel's fine art prints are more impressionistic in appearance and merge the reality of a photograph with the artistic expression of a painting. His popular and colorful images are printed on watercolor paper and canvas and emphasize local and Sierra Nevada scenery. Olof's award winning work was recently selected for display in the California State Capitol.

Thanks for checking out the July version of our email newsletter. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful community of people interested in our work, and find this is the best way to keep everyone informed of our summer activities. As I write this newsletter it appears that the devastating fire in South Lake Tahoe is slowly being contained. In Truckee we have smoke and ash but the fire is not a threat to the northern Lake Tahoe Area at this time. Anyone wanting to make a donation to the fire victims can get information from this link. |

ARTour Open Studios July 13-15
This year we will be having our Artour exhibit at our new Truckee Gallery. ARTour is free to attend this year. We have maps and directions to all the Artour artists at the Carmel Gallery. Olof and I will both be at the gallery during ARTour.
This year, forty locals artists will showcase a wide variety of works, ranging from painters, sculptors, illustrators, weavers, photographers, fiber artists, and printmakers. ARTour artists open their studios to the public in this once-a-year event, displaying complete works, works-in-progress as well as art methods and techniques. An opening reception with art, food, and live music is Thursday, July 12th from 5 to 8 pm at North Tahoe Arts center, 380 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe City, CA, just past the Tahoe City "Y."
