CANY Returns to Danbury Hospital
Danbury Hospital

Exactly one year ago in the CANY E-News, we posted an article titled,
A New Relationship with Danbury Hospital.  This April, we're pleased to report that we're continuing our relationship with the staff of the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit.

CANY's original program with Danbury Hospital included 12 weeks of training and monthly Supervision sessions.*  But then the funders of the program, Mr. Tom Pepin and Family, were so impressed with the work that had happened that they agreed to fund a second year of the program.  Now CANY staff will continue to run Supervision sessions at Danbury over the course of the entire year.  CANY Program Director Heidi Landis notes, "The staff at Danbury has really been able to integrate drama and creative interventions into their established weekly groups.  In addition, the training has helped them immensely in all of their interactions with patients, regardless of setting."

*Supervision sessions:  In this setting, a mixture of quality control, continuing education, continuing exploration of the CANY method, Q&A periods and professional interventions.

McLellan Presentation at UW-Madison
McLellan, drama therapists

CANY Training Director Lucy McLellan represented CANY in Madison, Wisconsin last month.

The UW-Madison Theatre and Drama Graduate Student Organization hosted their 11th Annual Theatre and Drama Graduate Student Conference on Saturday, March 24th, 2012. The conference was titled In Dialogue.  In McLellan's case, she and two other Madison-based drama therapists, Leah Okraszewski (left) and Amy Thomas (right) presented on the dialogue between theatre and therapy.  McLellan (center) spoke about the trauma-informed model of drama therapy practiced at CANY and specifically, discussed the way that CANY uses metaphorical processes to respond to traumatic stress.

Thank you to the University of Wisconsin for providing a forum for such an important discussion.
