Broadway at the Boathouse...OVATION! a Smashing Success
|
|

We are still hearing such great feedback from all who attended Broadway at the Boathouse...Ovation! We have now exceeded last year's benefit income by over 29%! These proceeds will help to fund essential drama therapy programs, like the one with refugees in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Many people were especially touched by the poignant stories shared by Delia and Angele (pictured right), two women in our program at the IRC.
Please listen to Angele's story here.

CANY Staff Attend Trauma Conference
|
|
Last month, our Executive Director, Jonathan Hilton, and CANY Program Assistant Jason Frydman visited Boston to attend the 22nd Annual International Trauma Conference. Jason Frydman reports:
My recent participation at the conference in Boston, MA began with a special pre-conference training to learn about the Attachment Self-Regulation and Competency (ARC) model of complex trauma care. The two day intensive session featured key elements of the ARC model as applied within therapeutic institutions. This informative workshop furthered my understanding of the importance of every caregiver in a child's life. All hands play an equally important role in re-establishing a foundation for children, whose experience of the world has shifted from stability to turbulence as a result of repeated exposure to trauma.
The remainder of the conference included exceptional speakers who presented advanced research on the benefits of embodied psychotherapy, as well as its role in helping traumatized children. I was deeply encouraged by the focus on creative arts interventions for beneficial therapeutic engagement.
All in all, the conference was informative and enlightening. What I learned re-affirmed my core therapeutic beliefs, and I am enthusiastic about applying this new knowledge to my work here at CANY.

CANY Welcomes Two New Board Members
|
|

CANY welcomes
Dr. Ronald Tamler and Zena Tamler to its Board of Directors. They were attracted to CANY after being invited to a benefit gala by Honorary Board member James Black, III.
Dr. Tamler serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and he was listed among
Super Doctors 2011. Zena Tamler is a Partner of the Estates and Personal Group at Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP. Mrs. Tamler received her JD from Harvard Law School and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Economics and History.
Our new board members bring a wealth of expertise in research methodologies and resource development. When asked why they chose CANY, Dr. Tamler responded "CANY's approach is refreshingly different and useful...it makes a huge difference in the lives of its clients". He adds, "We consider it a privilege to become (CANY) board members".
The Tamlers hope to help CANY reach more people in the community. Mrs. Tamler says, "We want to help CANY expand its services and become well-known throughout the New York community...we want their work to be recognized".
