There have been headlines today about the
Food and Drug Administration finding trace
amounts of melamine in US infant formulas.
The concentrations detected in the FDA
samples of US formulas were 10,000 times
smaller than those found in the Chinese
infant formulas that made many infants ill.
Melamine is excreted in the urine and can
cause inflammation of the bladder and
formation of kidney or bladder stones.
Symptoms may include: unexplained crying,
especially while urinating, vomiting, blood
in the urine, decreased urine output, or
flank pain. A urinary tract infection may be
another secondary problem.
We are not expecting any problems with our
formula fed infants at this time with the
information we have received so far, so would
like to reassure our families. We will pass
on information as we hear more.
