Tennis Community Update Susan Flanagan, Community Coordinator
Do I dare say that our spring has been surprisingly dry compared to last year? I don't want to jinx it but, it sure is easier when there are less make-up matches to try to coordinate, isn't it? Our USTA Junior Team tennis, is in full swing and I have seen some great competition between the kids. This spring season, the Junior teams have a chance to qualify for the Season ending tournament at Millbrook Exchanage Tennis Park, and than advance to the State Tournament that will be held in Cary, NC this year. QuickStart is taking off, and the City of Raleigh is going to make the 10 and under QuickStart kids very happy! On May 17th, the Optimist park will have "official" permanent 60ft QuickStart lines down on all eight courts. This allows Raleigh to host our own official USTA matches and tournaments at that location. Thank you David Bell, Raleigh Parks and Rec Director, for your hard work on this project! In addition, I want to thank all of the individuals who have helped with donations for the Elementary Schools in Raleigh. Through your generosity, we are able to provide QuickStart Equipment to two more schools this spring.
We will host on going volunteer committee meetings and have over 20 dedicated volunteers that have joined our team to help play an active role in our tennis community. We discuss upcoming events such as, Adult Leagues and Socials, Junior Team Tennis, QuickStart School events, and more. If you would like to join our volunteer group, please contact me for more information, we would love to have you!
