Letter From the President, Brian Rosenthal
  Brian Rosenthal

Dear Tennis Colleagues, RTA Friends, and Volunteers,

We are enthusiastic and ready to spring into action with a revised Board structure and refreshed goals and objectives. RTA is directly involved with extremely successful League programs and supports a diverse range of community activities including Quickstart programs, Adult league tennis, various scholarships and Junior Team Tennis. Through our new Committee & volunteers we intend to grow these existing efforts while finding ways to improve some of our other programs which need renewed attention.

Our big event we have planned for 2010 is the 1st Annual RTA Adult Club Cup. This event will involve a friendly, but competitive tournament including the Raleigh area private clubs at the levels of 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0. The venue will take place at the Raleigh Racquet Club on Saturday, June 19th. Additional information, fees, and format will be e-mailed and placed on our website this Spring.

Volunteers for events, promotion, and anything involved with helping the RTA is much needed and appreciated. To serve as a volunteer in 2010, please contact Susan Flanagan, our Community Coordinator at susan@raleightennis.com.

Hope to see you at one of our many programs and events in 2010

Warmest Regards,

Brian Rosenthal
President Raleigh Tennis Association

Adopt a School Program

Help bring tennis to school children in your neighborhood - adopt your local elementary school. Several local public elementary schools need USTA membership to provide them with valuable curriculum help for tennis as a part of PE classes. You simply register the school and pay the $35 membership fee; an act that will yield enormous benefits for the school and your community.

RTA is providing QuickStart tennis equipment to public elementary schools bringing tennis into the PE curriculum. This program will reach over 15,000 children this year, PE teachers will attend an In-Service training day and an excellent instructional guide, USTA Tennis Curriculum, will be provided by USTA to all member schools. Public schools in our area are not USTA members, and PE budgets are so low that the $35 membership is a real barrier. Schools need memberships this month to receive the curriculum guide at the training. Please consider adopting a school and register them as a USTA organizational member. The process is virtually the same as for an individual membership; you simply need some information on the school and the PE teacher. contact Susan@raleightennis.com to adopt a school today!

Tennis Community Update
Susan Flanagan, Community Coordinator

It's hard to believe that spring is just around the corner! Especially when I look out my window and all I see is snow!
As soon as this all melts, we have many exciting plans for this upcoming year.
On the Junior side, we are looking forward to our first SMASH and QuickStart spring season.  We had a great turnout for the fall and look forward to growing the tennis teams even larger this spring.
The RTA hosted a QuickStart Workshop in January with the Western Wake Tennis Association. We had record number of pro's,teachers and parent volunteers attend this year.  As we push to get QuickStart in the elementary schools in Raleigh, we are finding more and more teachers that are excited about adding QuickStart to their curriculum.  For anyone who is interested in the adopt a school program, please contact me for more information.
We are having our first annual volunteer committee meeting this month.  We have over  20 dedicated volunteers that have joined our team to help play an active role in our tennis community.   We will be discussing our upcoming events that include, The First Annual The RTA Club Cup Challenge, Adult Leagues and Socials, QuickStart School events, and more. If you would like to join our volunteer group, please contact me for more information, we would love to have you!

See you on the Courts!
