Hispanic Outreach Program
Green Road Community Center
As a means of reaching out to our Hispanic Community, the RTA in conjunction with the City of Raleigh Parks & Rec Dept. and Liliana Camara, NC Tennis Hispanic Outreach Coordinator, has offered two new classes at Green Road Park. One for kids and one for adults. For a $30 fee, students receive 6 weeks of instruction each Saturday morning through the middle of November. At the end of the class, all participants receive a free racquet. So far we've had 22 kids and 7 adults sign up to play and all seem to be having a great time. We plan on continuing and expanding this outreach effort to bring new players to the game!

Tennis Help What's the Call? Katrina Gildemeister, Certified USPTA P1, USTA Official, USTA Referee

What's the Call? Recently, in a USTA sanctioned doubles match, I was receiving serve and called the ball out. One of my opponents immediately asked my partner whether or not he thought the serve had landed in. My partner said "he couldn't clearly call the ball out." My opponent then got a referee who sided with my opponents claiming that since there was uncertainty on our team concerning the call, the ball was good. Was he correct in overruling my "out" call even though I clearly saw the serve land outside the service box?
Ruling: Sometimes even referees make mistakes, but the bottom line is if you clearly saw the ball land outside the service box, then your call should have been sufficient. Your opponent should not have questioned your partner especially if your partner didn't voice a disagreement with your call.
