Greetings!

The Raleigh Tennis Association (RTA) would like to thank you for the huge support in 2007.  We have been honored to receive the awards of North Carolina 2007 Member Organization of the Year and Southern 2007 Member Organization of the Year over the past few weeks. This recognition added to the prestigious Fred Fletcher Volunteer Award given to us by the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation earlier in the year, is certainly an honor for our organization. Thanks to all of our volunteers who have contributed to this success!

Last year, North Carolina had the largest growth in league participation for the USTA in the entire Southern Section.  Raleigh contributed to this accomplishment with a total increase of 142% across all of the leagues. We thank you for your league participation and support of the USTA!

Finally, congratulations to all of our BMW Combo Doubles Sectional Finalists! We look forward to continued success in 2008!

President, RTA

What's the Call?
Several readers have inquired on what procedures one needs to follow to become a certified tennis official.

To become an official you must:

·     Be a USTA member

·     Have eyesight correctable to 20/20

·     Attend a school conducted by a certified USTA Sectional Trainer

The USTA Provisional Official Exam:

THIS YEAR, THERE WILL BE NO TESTS GIVEN DURING THE CLASSES.

Tests must be downloaded from the USTA website, taken at home and the answer sheet brought to class. If you do not bring the completed answer sheet to class, you will NOT receive credit for the class.  These tests are now available on line on the USTA web site -http://www.usta.com/rules/default.sps?iType=1059&icustompageid=9001

They are OPEN BOOK using the 2007 Friend At Court. By taking the test at home, time spent in class can be minimized.  TAKING THE ON_LINE TEST IS REQUIRED.

In order to become certified as a new official, you must pre-register & attend the Provisional School scheduled.  Click here to register for one of the schools in our area.

New League for the Summer
USTA Tri-Level League

The Raleigh Tennis Association would like to offer a new league format for the summer.  This new league will cater to the smaller swim/tennis clubs that have limited courts and do not have enough players of one NTRP level to participate in other league formats.

The Tri-Level League involves three levels of doubles ie: 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 of women's teams and men's teams.  Each match would consist of three courts with each court playing at a different level.

If you think your club would be interested, please fill out this short survey.
